The “education” phase is likely to be a prolonged one for many, especially given the lack of first-party analytics data to explain what’s happening. It’s bad enough that brands are forced to bid on their own names just to comply with Google’s protection racket.

Still one of my proudest career moments. I don’t have a marathon medal hanging in my office, but I do have that issue of Net Magazine framed on the wall. Nice reminder not to overlook the wins, especially the ones that meant something at the time.

It’s a role with a little adaptation that I think is sorely missing in most large organisations today, something I recently discussed on an upcoming podcast with Danny Denhard.

Founded in 1994, Net was the UK’s premiere print magazine for web designers. It shaped an entire generation of digital creatives, especially back when "Webmaster" roles existed. One person handling design, hosting, analytics, SEO… and occasionally breaking things.

I was on some flaky airplane WiFi when I spotted a tweet from Steven Jenkins, who was then working at Future PLC. I replied, excited by the possibility of appearing in Net Magazine - a publication I grew up reading.
