Setting aside the ethical/plagiarism concerns, how valuable would it be for you to hire a research assistant if every 5th answer they gave was completely made up bullshit such that you had to double check every answer to make sure it wasn’t the bullshit one each time?

Between Phoenix’s multi-swap model, and the Nets/Rockets deal, we are basically at the point where teams are bundling draft pick CDOs.

Same for Dallas the year they got Lively.

Do fans really care that Washington is bad all year? What’s the difference between tanking and playing young players. But Philly stopping on a dime and shutting half their team down with injuries (some legit in fairness) draws a ton of focus and attention even though it’s rewarded
comment in response to post
Idk how the league thinks of it exactly, but I feel like the “tanking problem” for the league is more in that it reinforces brand liabilities they have around the meaningfulness of the regular season. In that sense, teams pivoting to tank mid yr feel more egregious than multi-year rebuilds
comment in response to post
Bunch of other shit about how Washington has the right to swap with wherever Phoenix lands, and then Milwaukee can swap with Washington but I stopped paying attention at that point

Okay so re-reading with a cup of coffee and healthy dose of procrastination: If Philly pick does NOT convey in 28 Nets get the best of BK’s, NYK’s or PHX’s pick. If Philly’s DOES convey Nets get best 2 of BK/NYK/PHL/PHX, UNLESS Knicks pick is in the top 2 in which case BK gets best and third best
comment in response to post
And in either event it’s 1 step closer to turning into a Philly second, which will happen if either Philly doesn’t convey the pick to OKC this season (top 4 protected), OR the pick lands in the top 8 in 2028
comment in response to post
I think it’s basically saying that BK owns swaps with both the Knicks and Suns in 2028, but they can plug Philly’s pick into the swaps with some limitations. But wowsers.
comment in response to post
Maybe you go Carter Bryant and just figure when in doubt you can’t have too many wings? Gets real dicey real quick in that middle range
comment in response to post
Good fucking luck
comment in response to post
Good news is, Philly not conveying their pick means the 2027 Philly FRP the nets own is now a 2028 Philly FRP (don’t worry protection is still top 8), and you’re going to need to hire an attorney to parse the swap rights between BK, Philly, Phoenix, Houston and Dallas
comment in response to post
Feels like Kasparas range? Derick Queen maybe? Meh
comment in response to post
Other fun Nets subplot: Philly has a 64% chance to keep their pick. If they do, the top-8 protected pick BK owns from the Ben Simmons trade rolls from a 2027 to a 2028, and 1 step closer to becoming a 2028 SRP. ‘28 1st is then dependent on Philly not conveying a top 4 protected ‘26 pick to OKC

I think there are a few party Favors so to speak this year lol

Yeah I think the better phrasing would be: This WILL be interesting AND (perhaps because) it could go horribly wrong

Not illegal because he’s outside the paint. If he’d been under the FT line he could get called for a 3 second violation. You can see Jokic tap both feet outside the paint at the :09 in the clip to avoid this call himself.

Anecdotally, NJ/BK era Brook Lopez was the absolute king of the heel-on-the-line long 2 so it was more of a question of changing shot position rather than skill development for him

Gonna need Knicks v Pistons to go 7 to get two more @motorcityhoops.bsky.social and @andrewjclaudio.bsky.social dual breakdowns.

For sure. Seems like something to outsource to an assistant (which maybe they do, idk)
comment in response to post
Certainly seems like the common thread is that Detroit is challenging when the players are really sure they didn’t foul—which should be the exact thing a coach doesn’t do
comment in response to post
It used to be, you'd throw on a game and they'd remind you to grab a beer and have a good time. Now, constant reminders to get some skin in the game because why the fuck else would you be watching, you loser.

Did Army have half a day?

You really think I don’t remember Boots McGee??
comment in response to post
Am I reacting to this like you seeing REM reunite a few months ago? Possibly. Also the Lowe Post pondcast boat being tethered to an actual low post is great visual comedy.
comment in response to post
In fairness I was fully cribbing from your posts from yesterday on those two. But I do really think that would have a much bigger impact than repainting the lines
comment in response to post
Completely. And I’m in no way suggesting it’s better or that there’s more effort or anything like that. Just trying to understand the underlying drivers of the anti-3 stuff because I think in most cases it’s not actually about 3s at all
comment in response to post
I feel like this is really helpful if you were actually trying to address the concerns because I don’t think banning corner 3s would solve much of this at all, whereas tweaking rules around perimeter D or moving screens, etc would help more
comment in response to post
Yeah I think that’s a big part of it for sure. Like what do you see if you ONLY watch the ball which is how most fans watch I think
comment in response to post
Thanks for this reply! I do think it makes sense that 3s are more likely to be open just given floor spacing. And I’ve had similar feelings watching college bball where it feels like good defense is rewarded more often (even if it’s often because players miss the same open looks NBA guys would make)
comment in response to post
😂
comment in response to post
Is this a reply from an actual hexagon?
comment in response to post
Is it something about fewer converted possessions? Or does it feel less satisfying when 3s miss as opposed to interior shots because it doesn’t feel like as direct a result of defense? Or something dumb like we are biased toward the ball moving linearly down the court to the basket?
comment in response to post
Do you have any thought or hypothesis on why the “they shoot too many threes” discourse has gained such a foothold? (Besides the standard boosts any anti-NBA discourse from “everything was cooler when I was younger” and racism)
comment in response to post
But, like, the wizards are on year 3 or 4 of this, as are the Jazz. I think the nets could be well positioned to be worse on the court next year if they roster 4-5 rookies (albeit with more exciting player development).
comment in response to post
To use your comparison from earlier I think being in the Sean Kilpatrick years of the 2014 rebuild but with draft picks to make is kind of cool. I haven’t been to the other app in months, but I sense a lot of people (mostly via reddit) are frustrated with not having the worst record
comment in response to post
I do too. I mean just the environment of guys competing and improving themselves is a pretty strong start
comment in response to post
And as a UConn fan that lapsed a bit during the late-Ollie/early Hurley era, if you’d told me I’d watch multiple games of Tyrese Martin as an NBA teams primary creator I would’ve thought you were insane. Love that he played himself into a deal
comment in response to post
Overall I think I feel better about where they are rebuild wise than I did before the year started. I also just loved the parade of point forwards we brought through.
comment in response to post
I get the handwringing over the lottery odds. I just think I was so resigned to them getting the 5th pick or worse regardless that I’m a little numb to it. (Favors instead of Wall and all that). Overall though they were a fun watch, which is a huge upgrade b last year
comment in response to post
I think Cam Thomas is an asset (though not a building block), and his extension value probably cratered. Sharpe is worth an extension as well. Remains to be seen what advantages they get from prioritizing cap space (though I’m optimistic)
comment in response to post
But of a mixed bag. Love Jordi and the fight they displayed throughout. Could’ve used a few more Ls, but I’ll trade it for dev reps/culture. Wish I saw more from Clowney, Dariq, Wilson, Claxton. Encouraged by others though.

I don’t think you get the Mikal offer without the Mitchell stuff being so prominently out there last year. I don’t think driving trade value is the ultimate goal, but I do think it’s part of the package here
