Cornell letter with 500 signatories is up!

PROFESSORS ARE INSISTING THEIR CAMPUSES STAND UP FOR DEMOCRACY AND HIGHER EDUCATION. Today, we are releasing letters - most organized in under a week - with over 5000 signatures calling on campus leadership to stand up to Trump & fight for our values & our students. bit.ly/CampusLettersTally

TIAA-Divest! members at #HandsOff this weekend across the country. The same systems that criminalize protest and target communities are driving environmental destruction. Our fights are connected—across campuses, borders, and movements. Where did you support from?

Hello, Bluesky!! We are a collective of academics who are standing up for higher education. Join us: www.wearehighered.org

I bought Twitter for $44,000,000,000 and sold it back to myself for $33,000,000,000. I have 43 kids and no friends. Everything I make explodes

I know higher ed has a lot going on right now, but can I alert you to what Wellesley College is doing to students as a result of their non-tenured faculty strike? thewellesleynews.com/21038/opinio...

Another reason it is cowardly to simply obey and let them take over your newsroom or university is that if you don’t they often will be like “well fuck, that was our main idea”

Let’s be clear: If the government can arrest, detain, and disappear peaceful protestors, none of us are free. That’s not law and order. It’s fascism. And we should all be outraged that this is being done in our name.

Unbearable

1/ He wasn’t kidding when he told people 2024 was the last election they’d ever have to vote in if he won www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

good morning

Admins are trying too hard to keep inside and outside messages separate. It's not like the inside pain is secret and it's never going to stay that way. Just be open about the fact that the campuses are in pain and that the external message will be one that works. www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

Call your rep, call your senators. No matter the party.

WHOA. On March 15, a Cornell PhD student with UK and Gambian citizenship, here on a student visa, filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn Trump's EO aimed at foreign students accused of "antisemitism. Last night, the DOJ emailed asking him to come to ICE to be detained and put into removal proceedings.

Reality of the economics of power generation is tough to ignore. The media and politicians are doing a great job of trying but reality is pretty relentless.

The Sudzha gas pipeline, a key route for gas from Russia into Europe, was just attacked. Pretty major sabotage, akin to the Nordstream attack

Okay, this is a big deal. We hadn't seen any new Nos from Senators who were on the likely Yes list.

Democrats asked Republicans to set guardrails to guarantee that money in the appropriations bill would actually be used as intended, blocking Elon Musk from stripping out the copper wire. Republicans said no. Chuck Schumer's decision to make the story about himself is political malpractice.

He's a weak man and a fool. This was one of the big arguments by the vote Yes Team: The moment will be more ripe in September. There's a good chance that's right, politically. But by September the federal government will be unrecognizable.

Too much is at stake not to keep up the pressure on the Senate Democrats up to the very moment of the vote.

TIAA markets itself as a responsible investor, yet has over $78 billion in fossil fuels — funding the very crisis that threatens its members' futures. There’s nothing “secure” about retirement on a planet in crisis. It’s time for TIAA to divest and invest in a sustainable future.

The FBI is now moving to criminalize groups like Habitat for Humanity for “conspiracy to defraud the United States.” This comes after EPA Director Lee Zeldin eliminated the EPA headquarters in D.C. and 10 other regional offices.

I think about this 2 minute speech a lot. Ella Baker with no time for applause and agreement, only time to remind everyone about what organizing and solidarity require

TIAA hosting the Big10 is pure sportswashing. While we cheer on our favorite teams, we can’t let TIAA score points with false advertising. They invest billions in fossil fuels & land grabs that harm Indigenous communities, Black farmers, & the planet. It’s time for TIAA to make a change.

We hear it time and again: "I didn’t know TIAA was so invested in coal, oil, and gas." TIAA’s reputation doesn’t match their actions. Head to the Forbes article and leave a comment urging them to #divest. Here are some powerful examples to inspire you. www.forbes.com/sites/marian...

From Tina Lu: Today’s call to Dems: "I'm a constituent and I'm urging Senator X to vote NO on the continuing resolution. No helping the Republicans until the lawbreaking stops." Some Dems are wavering, so please call! Calls work. 5 calls.org

They’re saying out loud the reason that no democrat can possibly support this. Let the democrats load up the bill with whatever spending they want and Trump just won’t spend it so don’t worry.

The GOP needs 7 dems to pass their budget bill. Michigan friends, Elissa Slotkin hasn't yet committed to voting against. This is the moment to CALL HER: 202-224-4822 Calls work. Please call all your Dem Senators!

I walked out of a faculty senate town hall on the administration's attempt to blow up higher education this evening, looked up in the sky to see the debris from Musk's spaceship blowing up over the Bahamas and South Florida.

This does seem true. Look at Trump — his positions didn’t seem popular until he *changed* public opinion. Dems for whatever reason (“popularism”?) don’t seem to think they can do this.

In the midst of the madness, there are some promising developments in the energy world. Last year China's gasoline use dropped by 9%. "Booming electric vehicle sales, meanwhile, mean that gasoline consumption probably peaked in 2023... down 9% from 2023 levels" Down 9%!!!

Spoiler alert! Forbes takes TIAA-Divest's side! #TIAA-Divest

Alito: "Does a single district-court judge...have the unchecked power to compel the Government of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 bill taxpayer dollars? The answer to that question should be an emphatic “No,” but a majority of this Court...thinks otherwise. I am stunned."

just gonna be the thousandth person to remind you all that segregationists start the open bigotry with people they feel they can target most easily but do not end there

FIVE ALARM FIRE. CALL DEMS TODAY.

🚨🚨ALERT🚨🚨: If you want Democrats to hold the line on Musk's illegal funding/firing spree, **RIGHT NOW** is time to make your voice heard. This update below is about just that. Not clear how hard a line they're taking. GOPS are abt to shutdown the govt. Their leadership wants Dem help outmaneuver...

They have the votes to impeach and convict him So they are not helpless They are complicit
