I wrote about The Last of Us television adaptation during the first season, more than two years ago. Watching the new season, I don’t have anything to correct about my take (gift link below). The story is boring when you are unburdened with the task of killing zombies.

Just deleted our two Soundcloud accounts because I do not agree that our content is used to inform, train, develop or serve as input to artificial intelligence (and there is no opt-out). Good bye.

To better understand the current state of AI, it's best to think of it as meaning Automated Information. That's all it is. Information being offered by a program trying to figure out what you're asking for. Any flicker of intelligence you might see in its method is entirely from randomness.

i think the biggest public relations coup AI boosters scored was calling it “AI.” people genuinely think it is an intelligence, and that when they query it, it is providing reasoned answers

'Questions for Anthropic (or any other LLM-pusher)'. Sharing the questions I prepared for a panel about Claude in education, in case they're useful to anyone else resisting the narrative of AI inevitability danmcquillan.org/questions_fo...

I wrote a blog post that examines why AI reasoning models aren't thinking. So what are they doing? "The fraudulent euphemism of AI thinking" I hope you'll read it. meresophistry.substack.com/p/the-fraudu...

Coming tomorrow, the first in a series of releases by @c + Visiophone, “30×N — VRD1”, including a remix by Jordan Rita Seruya Awori & Marc Behrens. Stay tuned www.cronicaelectronica.org/235/ @visiophone.bsky.social @ptudela.bsky.social @carvalhais.org

If you're a grad student or an undergrad interested in research I need to you listen to me very carefully. You cannot learn to write good research papers if you do not read good research papers. Stop asking LLMs to summarize papers for you.

“They have escaped the weight of darkness.” with @machineagency.bsky.social, opens today @ Calcular na Areia 3.

"If art is the establishing or breaking of aesthetic rules, then AI art, as practiced by the right, says that there are no rules but the naked exercise of power by an in-group over an out-group." newsocialist.org.uk/transmission...

“They have escaped the weight of darkness” with @machineagency.bsky.social Opens tomorrow at Calcular na Areia 3 in Santarém.

Okay, here's one piece I've been pondering for a while that I finally took a moment to write up: What would a "good" AI product look like? www.anildash.com/2025/05/01/w...

This was not an easy decision to make, but we believe it's in the best interest of all, the artists that work with us but also everyone that enjoys the releases we help create. www.cronicaelectronica.org/streaming/ @cronicaelectronica.org

We're super happy to present “aida”, by Arturas Bumšteinas & Viktorija Makauskaitė. This is a continuous, almost three-hour-long sound work exploring the space between things. Originally a ten-channel soundtrack for an exhibition, it is now available in a stereo mix. www.cronicaelectronica.org/234/

Reading this old PhD thesis "On Knowing What To Say" (by Philip R. Cohen) on a planning theory of speech acts, and in many ways this paragraph feels just as true today as it did it 1978!

“AI Companion”

My critique is "They seem useful, but actually suck". A subtle distinction. They SEEM very easy to use, so easy in fact that other methods seem hard by comparrison. SEEMING useful is actually part of why they suck. They trick you into giving up on thinking, searching, finding.

Some reflections on what "AI" is for, why genAI - while being toxic for our minds and creatives - is a bit of a distraction and how discriminative AI is actually making Marc Andreessen's dreams come true. Oh and Fascism. https://tante.cc/2025/04/24/forcing-the-world-into-machines/

Algorithmic Pattern call for talks, performances and workshops now open ! 2025.algorithmicpattern.org/call/ We hope this call excites you whether you are exploring patterns in heritage crafts or contemporary algorithmic art.

Fascinating. First half of this article I couldn't disagree with more. Grotesque display of human essentialism. Second half, strong proposal for good and responsible AI UX design: never let AI feign humanlikeness. Don't let it say "I", or speak with prosody. theconversation.com/we-need-to-s...

Happy to announce that the next release by Ilia Belorokuv in Crónica, “NRD DRM TWO 2022-2024”, is now available for preordering! This is a fantastic collection of pieces following 1-step patterns with changing tempo. www.cronicaelectronica.org/236/ @musicworm.bsky.social

I get asked a lot during talks at universities how to integrate LLMs into the classroom "ethically". And the more I think about it, the more I'm affirmed the answer is "don't". This piece by @sonjadrimmer.bsky.social and Christopher Nygren on AI provides some excellent arguments as to why.

For those in Porto, there's still time to register for the Interconnected Intelligences symposium on artificial intelligence and the concept of nature. 5-6 April at Livraria Cassandra. The event is organized by Associação Earthsea Register here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Tomorrow evening we will perform 30×N, at Salão Central Eborense, in the Multimodus Conference. Me and @ptudela.bsky.social on computers and sound, @visiophone.bsky.social on computer, lights, and visuals. multimodus.ipportalegre.pt
