New recent leak about the Astral Zoom before ASMS. Apparently there’s a partnership with a teleconferencing company to improve customer-driven marketing videos, by embedding a webcam in the MS. So you can Zoom while your peptides elute during a Whisper Zoom method for analysis in an Astal Zoom.

To start the #ausomics New Technologies 2 session, we have Stephen Blanksby presenting collision-/ozone-induced dissociation to resolve triacylglycerol isomers

Monday #THEProteomicsShow release? Yep. This week @proteomicsnews.bsky.social and I got to talk with Anna Barker and it 100% deserves a listen. Find it wherever you find fine podcasts or at anchor.fm/theproteomic... Bonus, check out Ep 39 for more CPTAC fun (pretty sure she recruited him over).

News in Proteomics Research blog post | MAP-MS! Get more Orbitrap dynamic range for free! proteomicsnews.blogs... --- #proteomics #prot-other

Had a great time presenting our latest structural glycoproteomics. Although they look similar, they’re very different!

Congratulations to our 2025 Morrison medallist Nicolle Packer, recognising her significant contribution to mass spectrometry research in Australia #TeamMassSpec #ausomics

First up in the #ausomics New Technology 1 session, Dr. Sarah Hancock @sarahehancock.bsky.social, presenting a new approach to distinguish isomeric lipids that doesn’t require instrument modification. Subsequent applications to cancer cell lines look promising!

First seen at HUPO 2024, a method which almost DOUBLES MS1 dynamic range and increases protein IDs by 11% Best bit of all? It's FREE as this is purely a method improvement which should work for any Orbitrap system, no hardware or software changes A similar approach will be called eDR on Excedion

Looks like #ausomics is the place to be for Thermo “generic toy brick” instrument kits. At least 20 boxes?

Very deserving winner of the Australian Glycoscience Society Mid-Career Researcher Award @nickescott.bsky.social giving the opening talk at #AUSoMicS2025

This is utter madness. Harvard University and its many associated academic teaching hospitals have had all federal grants terminated. How anyone could support an administration that is committing such self harm to their country is unfathomable. view.u.hms.harvard.edu?qs=3ed8c01b9...

The Ashwell–Morell receptor (AMR) plays a key role in regulating the concentrations lots of blood glycoproteins, John Hintze and colleagues from SBPDiscovery and the Copenhagen Center for Glycomics explain how in this fabulous work ⤵️ clue: its #glycotime!!! 😎❤️🧪🍬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 PNAS www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Broad industry support for Skyline and ProteoWizard has been one of the best things about our field. It has made all vendors’ instruments equally valuable in our marketplace of data. Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish #Sciex.

Focusing on the positives, my company has greatly benefited from past SCIEX funding of Skyline/Proteowizard: - A possible 10X improvement for method dev was identified that required software support and we engaged the Proteowizard/Skyline team. - An improved Skyline/Proteowizard was made in 3 weeks.

www.wehi.edu.au/careers/make... WEHI is looking for new lab heads! New and experienced lab heads welcome. Check out the ad, consider applying and share. We’re a collaborative bunch, in Australia, with fabulous technology, great colleagues at a values-driven organisation. @wehi-research.bsky.social

I've always considered Sciex as a serious competitor in the MS space. The decision to discontinue Skyline support means I will now have to limit my use of Sciex instruments and affects purchasing decisions and vendor rankings.

We are still accepting applications to attend the GRC on CAZymes for Glycan Conversions. This year's theme is ‘Unlocking CAZyme Interfaces’. This is one of my favorite meetings and I am excited to be the vice co-chair elect this year. #glycotime #biochemistry 🧪 www.grc.org/carbohydrate...

Disappointing to see, across both parties. Sciex is no longer providing funding for Skyline/Proteowizard as part of the multi-vendor agreement to keep Skyline supported across all major vendors. I can see the arguments from both sides, just a shame it's resulted in this.

Did you know that the Smithsonian has post-doctoral and pre-doctoral fellows? Applications for 2026 fellowships are due in October. There is also a special funding pot for pre-docs from Big 10 schools. Send me a message or find me at #ASMS2025 and let's talk about ideas. fellowships.si.edu/SIFP

Pleased to share the first paper from my independent group. We describe a short, economical synthesis of O-glycosylated amino acids. Out now in @rscchembio.rsc.org pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...

Looking forward to it!

The bees:beads ratio is out. We should have some comprehensive bee studies to balance it out. youtube.com/shorts/6_Q6e...

There are still spaces available to attend the 2025 Carbohydrates GRC and GRS. Apply now!

Here comes the pre- #ASMS2025 preprints showing off possibly one of the soon-to-be announced instruments, the Sciex 8600 ZenoTOF. "enabling intermediate to high sample throughput, we observed a 30–40% increase in identified precursors." Will confirm once the raw files are made publicly available.

Check out our new #proteomic method to site-specifically quantify UFMylation! We applied the approach to look at human skeletal muscle biopsies from #ALS. A great collaboration with CellSignalTechnology and many others... A little summary below... www.cell.com/cell-reports...
