Once you get past red and white, it all becomes local from what I've seen... I hear jokes about "reddit laces" sometimes with the less- common colors.

My favorite survey memory is little bird feet poking out of film canisters while they were being weighed!

I only see about 1/4 of my feed being follows, and the other stuff is generally on point too. So far, the only worry I've seen is the normal social media echo chamber!

OK, real q: do y'all collaborate with the Urban Dictionary folks on new words' definitions, etymology, etc? It seems like you're the most up to date of the traditional dictionaries and pick up where they leave off a lot of the time IRT technical details.

Merlin IS awesome, and I know a few high school age kids who use it so it's not just old farts like us! And Ebird for finding the cool ones you haven't seen in a while! One of the biggest disservices the Boomers/X did was make the cool stuff "old people stuff" on a cultural level.

Anyone who thinks a punk is gonna defend a CALIFORNIA PROSECUTOR is seriously fucked in the head. If you want a fight, boys, at least be original with your insults! You aren't worth my time for ANYTHING starting with "F," So stop trying to pick me up!

The TOS movie era is criminally underrated!

Ah, OK... yeah, I'm fucking terrified about that, too. With this administration, though, it wouldn't be the first time I was blindsided by something horrific

Having experienced very much the opposite sentiment from multiple establishments (in several states), and living in a blue island in a red state, I'm cautious of what I will walk into. It being a business, open to the public, isn't always enough to ensure you're safe.

It's on my list, but as a trans woman? Finding one's my biggest worry.

And if you're standing next to a big bell when it tolls, you feel like a cloak got thrown over you from the vibrations!

Why not? You should hear all the fun ways to describe getting your balls chopped off that a set of stoned trans girls can come up with 🤣

As someone who did this on occasion in the old place, I hope I fell into "ignore!" You're a great source of rabbit holes, which do occasionally become quote post threads!

Those that are "kind" or "generous" out of vanity disappear, and those that did it as camouflage show their true selves to those that they thought were important enough to cushion their sharp edges. Those of us that grew up or into their contempt are used to it, even if it's worse now than ever.

Second thing: when viewed from the POV of most minorities of any sort, these values have traditionally been applied inconsistently and in as self serving a manner as possible. The difference here is that a lot of people are feeling a different kind of loss of privilege than they're used to, so...

Oh, I don't schedule them, I ambush management in public meetings THEY call with stuff they've agreed needs to be fixed privately and they keep avoiding!

As much as I hate it, I'm THAT coworker... usually about pain in the butt stuff that requires multi- department sign off/new policy written. I'm at an 80% success rate with "no one in the meeting had the authority to make the decision." 🤪

One of the screwed up but amusing transition moments for those of us growing them for the first time is the first time we urge one to keep up with the other!

Until they bring back either the 1890s or 1930s (depending on your skin color) and start using their outside voices inside...

Those days are sadly behind me (too many personal risk factors), but I'm glad people are putting direct pressure on them. I just hope their knee-jerk response isn't reaching for the cops more. They'd the last thing any of us need

I haven't heard anything about anything resembling the academic underground of the 20s and 30s, but that would be both effective and traditional. That and effectively standing up for your students and employees, but that takes direct confrontation with a belligerent outsider.

The thing is, what can they (from their paradigm) do? In a lot of cases, their hands are tied by not only regulations but bylaws put in place to keep the school neutral, unembarassed, and prestigious - usually written by wealthy, entitled old white men who would probably mostly agree with fElon.

Because the boards of governors are afraid of the public that are showing up to support the students and working profs... and making the problem worse for themselves from both sides.
