Killjoy with your facts. (I genuinely did not know that, which is... a bummer! Not just for this particular but because it's another instance of America refusing to play by the same rules we hold everyone else to)

It can get you so fast! I have to be so vigiliant both for myself and my campers.

I have been well in the shade for a while now, & it's legit gorgeous when you're not in the baking sun. Like I could stay here for hours. Except I'm'a need something else to eat or drink, which means getting up & going in to the bar, & thus risking losing my sweet seat.

Oh yeah it's also super important to know that a lot of medications, including many anti-depressants, can affect your heat tolerance and susceptibility to sun damage. I did not realize this at first until I noticed I was burning *way* more easily than I used to. Wear more sunscreen.

Don't fuck around with this.
It's looking like it's gonna be a *long* wave, and that's gonna suck. A lot.

I just know I got home -- to my parents' home, not my own -- somehow, and was useless for the next couple of days while I recovered.
It's not fun! I probably should have been taken to a hospital!

I was probably very much on the verge of heat *stroke*, if not over that edge. I don't remember much of the next day and a half except that I got driven to the closest air conditioning. I actually cannot remember if I drove myself home a few hours later or if my parents came to get me & my car.

I was young enough to think myself invincible. So I was very insistent. My family was there that day. I wanted to put on a good show.
And then I stopped sweating, vomited, and fainted again.

I insisted on being allowed to go back to work after I fainted the first time, and they FOR SOME REASON allowed it.
I believe the concession was losing my outer sleeves, taking off my hat, and loosening my stays.
THAT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. THEY SHOULD HAVE SENT ME HOME.

(I also might have had a bit of food poisoning which certainly did not help. Pro Tip: Do not eat cheese on hot days.)

Heat exhaustion is not fun. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.
Fine I'll tell you. I pushed myself way too hard one day when I was working the renn faire, 17 years ago. The heat index was, IIRC, 118.

I'm gonna be spending this heat wave outdoors in a public park for 8+ hours a day, bc that's my job. You bet your ass I'm gonna be hydrating like fuck, making sure my kiddos hydrate like fuck, dousing us all in water as often as I can, and taking good fucking care of myself when I get home.

Also there is a DOG beside me; she is a spotted Great Dane and she is playing with a chew toy and she is AMAZING.

I would heartily encourage them sexing it up as much as they wanted, but would hope to keep sexual violence off-screen. There's a reason the story starts where it does. I'm more interested in recovery from trauma than showcasing it.

If I *got* to offer more contribution, it would be to keep the nuance in characters and their relationships intact. Not flattening Vibia out into a shrew. Not making Sempronius more of a jerk.

*Yes, yes, the solstice was technically 10pm last night, whatever, Iām celebrating today, the days are within a fraction of a second of the same length.

Don't use this shit. Just don't. For other reasons, too, but if ethics and the environment cannot move you, maybe the threat to your own gd brain will.

"ChatGPT users had the lowest brain engagement and 'consistently underperformed at neural, linguistic, and behavioral levels.' Over the course of several months, ChatGPT users got lazier with each subsequent essay."

The reader, like Rhiann, has seen hints but has -- justifiably -- not known whether or not to trust them.
