These protests and direct actions are not just symbolic. People are responding to masked kidnappers storming local homes and businesses to steal families. ICE is kidnapping children at immigration proceedings and separating them from their parents. They kidnapped a 4th grader from my city.

Part of that is because PDF opened up enough for us to embrace it. Of course msft would rather own the format but if there’s a free one that works, at least you can offer the value prop.

I remember it making complete sense as someone on the word team. HTML didn’t have anything like the modern layout capabilities so if you really wanted your magazine to look like a magazine, it was word or PDF.

Yes, and we tried a lot of crazy things during that time, some less crazy than this, but this is definitely one of the winners. Also, Expedia.

I was on the Word team at the time. Kinsley spent some time sitting in our meetings to understand how we work better, and I did a 1:1 interview with him about how we did usability. He liked that we had nicknamed the office assistant “the clown”.

It’s bizarre. I keep running hypotheses, and motivation by fear does come to mind. But what a betrayal of how Microsoft used to be if true. I hope it’s just his fiduciary duty to lay off everyone who’s not returning positive ROI because of performance, seniority, or bad team choice.

Not sure I agree about it not getting old.

The ignorance of the history here is breathtaking. The Soviet Union won the war at the highest expense.

Interesting they didn’t include the “j” in Vrbanja. I visited this area last spring; lots of scars and pain.

Also relieved Trump isn’t yet openly defying court orders. He’s just doing “the dog ate my homework” excuses.

There was a period when it was fascinating to watch him struggle with us. He knows it’s his administration’s greatest accomplishment and wants to give credit for it. But if he talks about it, his audience boos and hisses. It’s heartbreaking.

Is there a shift from services that claim to have a fictional magic ad finding model to subscriptions?

“We denied citizenship to American Indians so it’s ok to deny it to children of migrants” is quite a take.

On what planet do carmakers have a spare 25% margin to pay to the government and not raise prices?

I’ve been globally diversified for years based on long term trends. But the last 5 years have been rough. Glad I stayed the course!

I think those are independent discoveries. Gamers were just early adopters.

I’ve been internationally diversified for 20 years. It’s been a rough 5 to 10 years recently as the US stock market has just run out ahead of the global stock market. But in the long run, that has never been so. Maybe it’s time for mean reversion
