the charlottesville no kings protest is wrapping up. a few dozen holdouts are still out there with signs, but people are heading home to cool off. it was a crowd of thousands, lining the streets for nearly a mile this morning.

i want you to practice saying it. “i am invoking my right to remain silent and will not answer questions without an attorney present.” say it out loud. it sounds so simple but when the moment comes, you forget. you’ll be stressed, scared, confused, & want to explain yourself. don’t. it won’t help.

To be clear I, too, would rather not have to deal with this. But it's a political citizen's duty, even if it's scary and even if there are risks. The First Amendment means something: grab your friends and head outside on Saturday.

The fascist dog killer who did glamor shots in front of CECOT is talking about liberating California while federal agents drag a duly elected US Senator to the ground. This is Star Wars shit it's so on the nose except it's real, right in front of us. It does no good to back away from this reality.

There’s a rich, deep history in both English and later American political tradition about the threat standing armies could pose to civil liberties, so this is something that ought to appeal to originalists who haven’t gone completely MAGA.

This style of coverage not only normalizes Trump's authoritarianism, but misleads readers that it's popular (it's not)

Fortunately that changed in 2021. (And there also is/was an option for earlier grads to get a portrait-free diploma, according to a now-removed webpage.) ringtumphi.net/7618/news/co...
