Re SSA and 300 yos: Remember the hysteria about Y2K? That was due to the systems using COBOL which lacks a date data type. COBOL is great at processing high volumes of data very quickly. It is very expensive to get off COBOL mainframe systems, which is why most orgs, including SSA, haven't done so.
