Pff, 🙄 talk to me when Turkey starts exporting Silverados to the Asia-Pacific region.
(This is a joke, I know this article is about ships, not sports cars)

Shortly after that, I remember you also took a strong stand for unionized nurses with one of our colleagues (called his wife a scab 🤣). I should have picked up on the signs earlier, though.

Daniel Day-Lewis delivers the line "pettifogging Tammany Hall hucksters" with complete seriousness and gravity that no other actor could.

This is a glaring indictment on the schools that produced these journalists. We are failing our society when we don't demand education that produces thoughtful and inquisitive citizens, especially those who work in the press. Degrees and accolades are meaningless if all you seek is sensation.

Man, I swear our TOC in Afghanistan had more guys cheering for PR than the US in the World Baseball Classic! One of my favorite memories from that time.

I recommend the article, it's a great description of this disease and the policies around containment.
Nevertheless, framing matters and this false equivalence between scholarly opinions and lay opinions threatens legitimizing dangerous practices.

Hunters have a vested interest in hunting remaining as a viable activity. Ignoring the problem chronic wasting disease poses to hunters allows them considerably more psychological comfort that acknowledging it.
Unfortunately, like many problems, ignoring it won't solve it.

It's no disrespect to value a pathologist's expert opinion over a hunter's opinion on a prion disease.
Furthermore, can anyone blame a hunter who doesn't want to acknowledge that a disease could have an existential impact on a closely-held traditional pastime?

The crews worked hard and did a good job here in St. Joe, but there will always be areas that need help and I think this model would be an interesting one to try. #StJoeMo

Social media as it currently exists is corrosive to public discourse and the Democratic party failed to realize they were campaigning in the first election of a new media era, not the last campaign of the old media era.

But everyday, public servants perform their duties in less visible, but equally consequential ways.
We need to do more to help them all succeed and create opportunities for our next generation to do well, doing good, close to home!

When we see these snow trucks out, state, county, or city, getting our streets clear, we see how we critically need public services, to get to school, work, to obtain what we need. The efforts here are visible, the results almost instantly noticeable.

Careers in transportation dep'ts, for example, fixing and clearing roads and planning and organizing that work, should pay competitive, middle-class wages. They should provide pathways to the middle-class for anyone willing to work for it and stability for their families when they do.

I'm paraphrasing Jason Kander, but he recognized that regardless or partisan affiliation, people want their kids to grow up safe, be successful, and have careers and lives that allow them to stay close. Investing in local government, making them the very best they can be, helps achieve all three.

Local and state gov't should be model employers. Careers in state and local public service should pay well and be highly sought. Underpaying hard-working public employees and allowing staff levels to run short with high turnover impoverishes our communities.
