Yes. The “feel” of this is what I would think would infuriate everyone. He acts like he is the boss of all of us while also hating 49% of us. We have never felt this way with another POTUS. It really is like he thinks he is king.

Serious question. Where can we go for science-based medical recommendations? My husband and I are seniors and fortunate enough to pay for boosters if needed, but where so we get good info?
comment in response to post
I honestly think there must be an increasing number of district and appellate judges asking themselves why they even bother to write a reasoned decision.
comment in response to post
Far from being originalists, SCOTUS majority justices seem to want a very different ruler (literally) than what the authors of the CONSTITUTION wrote about.

I’m a non-lawyer and also hope to read more about what this means.

I agree with that last point. There are a lot of people who do not keep up with the news, but many of these posters are informative enough, and they can’t be avoided. Sort of like billboards.

Hmm…did he know the trick about being recorded?

Source, please? I am curious about TX.

My husband has decided Trump gets to play golf once every six months.

1) Frank does amazing work. 2) people down here are working their butts off in local elections.

Math teacher here. What does “reset the equation” mean?

Those of us who have R members of Congress (e.g Van Duyne) receive very different messages…

I keep reading about pardons, too, but never in “the papers.

If everyone thought about what their kids would ask them someday, we would be much better off. I can only imagine Rubio’s kids asking someday, “Dad, why were you laughing when they were taking about kidnapping and torturing people?”
comment in response to post
So an American gets kidnapped in a foreign country, and Chuck says that foreign country is not subject to American law?

TX24 Me: Why did Van Duyne support? Staffer: I haven’t talked to her. Me: you don’t know why? Staffer: No but I can pass along your concerns. Me: You surely know SOS ALREADY verifies citizenship so this is unnecessary. Staffer: I will email you her statement. 3 days later….

I am just amazed at the lack of courage. Today watching Rubio, I keep thinking, “What would happen if he said ‘I can’t be a part of this’” and stood up and walked out.

Also interesting how the grabbers can wear masks but protestors on college campuses can’t?

Not a lawyer, but can a judge hold in contempt, jail, listen to new DOJ lawyers, hold in contempt, jail, repeat?

I’ve been busy today, but 24 hours has passed. How the the “arrest on the dealership” go?
comment in response to post
Good
comment in response to post
And what does “arrest on a dealership” mean? Like this person will be arrested *at* the dealership? Do they know what time they are supposed to be there? And DOJ gets to set the sentence? I am so confused.

I’m not an attorney. Do these folks have any recourse? Like suing the government?
comment in response to post
My non-attorney take. It seems that there have been multiple cases where lower courts, both L and R leaning, have issued consistent, clear rulings. Then it get to the SC, and they suddenly issue a completely different opinion, as if none of those lower courts had the same level of brilliance.
comment in response to post
Probably naive question on my part. Do justices sit around a table and debate a case?
comment in response to post
My thought after two Rs said on CNN that Americans would be happy to pay an extra $1.50 for socks to “buy America.” Really? Rs weren’t happy to wear a mask to go into a store to slow down COVID!
comment in response to post
Few people could do this for 25 hours, but aren’t there some who could do it for 8? Maybe line those up day after day?

And then send those letters to other papers in your state. Sometimes smaller papers NEED more letters and varied opinions. Texas writers: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Thank you for the shout out to VOTE411.org. I staffed a VR table at a Dallas church this morning—told lots of folks they could go to this website, get a personalized ballot based on address, print and mark up based on candidate answers to questions, and take that with them when they vote.

We read over & over again of election workers, teachers, civil servants, journalists, and more who make modest salaries and yet stand up to this bully, but these multi-millionaires cannot. And they are the professions we turn to for legal counsel? These law firms need to do some real soul searching.

Recorded greeting says to go online, but deceased persons’ accounts cannot be accessed that way. And drop-in visits not allowed. So, my situation as well as millions who don’t have/do online? Is there a plan?
comment in response to post
My experience in requesting a 1099 for my deceased mother…LONG hold times but incredibly cheerful and helpful staff once we were connected. They are just SO understaffed.
comment in response to post
I would also think this could be THE #1 issue that would sink Rs.
comment in response to post
Combination of complete immunity, pardons, direct control of DOJ, and ability to defy court orders seems to be incompatible with any rule of law.
comment in response to post
Serious question. Any possibility of SCOTUS reversing itself this soon after that horrible immunity decision?
comment in response to post
D leadership overthinks this. They rightly criticize right wing Christians as being hypocrites for not taking care of the vulnerable, ignoring the poor, etc. then they vote for a bill that doesn’t take care of the vulnerable and ignores the poor.
comment in response to post
Agree. When my veteran husband and I go to the “Support our Veterans” march tomorrow, I had hoped we’d not be protesting what Schumer is now supporting.
comment in response to post
Oh! You mean how they redefined what a "day " is? Should be front page news...shame on Dems. They voted for redefining a "day."
comment in response to post
My recent story is that I needed to acquire a 1099 for my deceased (2024) parent. I could not do that online as her record had been cancelled. I could not drop by SS ofc w/o an appt. Phone waits even a few was ago were 1-3 hours.

There are so many of us volunteering hours every day in whatever ways we can. This is insulting, demoralizing, and horrible leadership. Leadership needs to change.

I’m allocating most of my previous energy spent on national “if only” thinking to knocking on doors for local races in my city. That is where I can make a difference.

I actually called the 800 line last week about my deceased mother’s 1099. 3rd time worked after hold time estimates of 80, 120, and 45 minutes (3rd time). Message said wait time for disability app review (not me) is 200-230 days.

My mother willed her body to UT Southwestern who notified the City of Dallas. It was then my responsibility to notify SSA. But main point is government was notified.
comment in response to post
Agree. I keep hearing Dems need a simpler message. Trump stating he is our king is a simple message.

I have a grandchild with a medical issue that necessitates her parents being extra cautious. We now have a measles outbreak in Texas, with a new HHS sec’y who wants fewer vaccines. I would not recommend families who care about science based medical care live here.
