I do find it fascinating that Solas is so deep in his own guilt and pain that he either can't or doesn't allow himself to see it, that's one of the reasons I find him such an interesting character.

Yeah that's the biggest reason I don't like the sythesis ending; one person shouldn't get to decided the fate of everyone, especially when so many would suffer because of it. And same goes for Solas.
(Another much smaller reason is that it sounds way too much like what Saren says in the first game)

And I agree, Solas's decision to tear down the Veil is a decision he took on his own without asking anyone impacted how they would feel about it and that is not a thing so in all my playthroughs I'm against it even when I romance him.

Every endings in ME3 have dire consequences but I usually go with destroy because I remember Legion saying "the geth write their own future" and I feel like synthesis and control goes against that and while they die, they chose to fight with us. And EDI says is ready to die to win this war.
