oooh okay yeah that makes sense! I took it as like "its just for aesthetics" but yeah i agree! 💚 Commonplace books have also started to gain some popularity lately which feels like a practice from the same impulse

I generally pause before criticizing stuff that young women are enjoying. It seems to me that if people are putting an extra layer of thought and care and analysis into what they're reading, that can only be good, right?

I think this is mostly a personal practice, it's not for books you're going to lend out, def not for library books unless you can remove everything before you turn it back in

Looks wonderful! You chose great colors for that pattern

Ah okay the dock spiders (how fun) are amateur collegiate summer baseball leagues.
They're not minor league (minor league guys get paid, these guys don't). I didn't know about these leagues before! I'll have to check if any area playing near me this summer!

based on true events!
(also thanks! i think the point of the 'make a terrible comic' exercise is to push past the idea that something's not worth making because it'll be "bad." Making something can have its own worth even if the output doesn't hit my own personal high standards)

Given the chance to be a highly visible statue of a trans person in a public space and to be literally indestructible, the prospect might be tempting.
The party is a night of joyous reunion but at the end it's a bittersweet feeling. Being locked away means not being able to experience that joy.

The comic imagines a night when all of the statues in the city come to life and if you join their dance you become a statue as well.
I've been thinking a lot lately about what being trans in public spaces feels like these days, and the ways that being seen can also mean being put in danger...

The best solution I've seen so far is a magazine that had an early free submission window for low income and otherwise marginalized writers and then after that window anyone could submit with a fee. I thought it was a good compromise.

Yeah I feel like reading or submission fees are built both as fundraising and to minimize the number of submissions they might otherwise get. But unfortunately that excludes lots of good writers!

oh that looks like a really nice time

i worked as a carrier for a while and there was 1 route that used a vehicle with aircon and the difference in comfort was night and day (we didnt have any of the new electric vehicles but theyre also much safer- those big goofy windows mean the driver can better see children and obstructions)

My favorite part about the article I read about it is that they send it to a lab that gets results in A YEAR OR MORE so it's absolutely just about
1) getting evidence for higher sentences later on
2) presumably being able to legally stab ppl with needles?

At that point he was the top name in the game, but it's still extremely illustrative (no pun intended) of how little illustrators are valued today. Like damn if I could guarantee 40k for a whole years worth of work I'd be happy
