They didn't make it up themselves; it was made up for them, it's a strategy. You fight this with left populism, there's no other way.

To wit, Bernie is not even a Democrat! He's an independent who caucuses with them, and we are going to need to see a LOT more electeds in that same mold if we're ever going to shake ourselves free of this pathetic "opposition" party and make progress.

"Republicans broadly sympathize with the Israelis (75%) over the Palestinians (10%), while Democrats sympathize with the Palestinians over the Israelis by a nearly 3-to-1 ratio (59% vs. 21%)."

Fucking embarrassing. It's not too late to change course, but the clock is ticking. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if the only school to suffer permanent long-term consequences from this period in history ends up being the one trying the hardest to comply.

With love, I think you might be a bit too invested in sorting people into linguistic boxes!

Obviously this is bullshit, but my point is that this phrasing gives an easy way for schools to take money and not change anything about DEI programs. Because this does not require them to, because they're not illegal.
comment in response to post
Good news! DEI programs do not run afoul of federal law (obviously.)

DFW is my favorite author unfortunately but check out his otherwise mostly excellent essay Authority and American Usage in which he argues that America is immune to fascism because he can't imagine anyone voting for no more voting 🥲

The Dick in a Box guy's wife wrote this and that's beautiful.

If you won't defend Article 1 then you've doomed us all. This is so incredibly short sighted. You absolutely must reconsider.
comment in response to post
This is totally unacceptable. If you won't fight you need to get out of the way. There's blood on your hands, Senator.

Agree it's confusing, but without checking I'm pretty sure they're setting up other kinds of self-citation as a contrast with self-citation "on the paper basis" as described in the abstract. It pretty clearly says "papers citing themselves" there!
comment in response to post
In this context, "self" refers to the paper itself, not the authors. A "self-citation" here refers to a paper containing a recursive citation to itself, not to another work by the same author(s).

Thanks for clarifying that this isn't the one in Awlabamaw, UT.

The language is about stripping rights from trans people, to be clear, although transphobia is broadly rooted in misogyny.

Hey, this post contains the claim that existing passports with an 'X' gender marker have been invalidated, but I can't find a source for that. Can you share more information? Was it just that existing passport *applications* requesting 'X' were invalidated?

Not to take away from your broader point, but while he's personally immune, Rep. Balint clearly means that his administration will be the defendant, not the man himself.

SPITE you're so hot, how do you do it?

Maybe not technically "anime" since it's French instead of Japanese, but check out Mars Express.

I think your audience is the people who also miss what you're describing and still want it. The fading prevalence of serious critical work only makes it more important, not less!

I was once removed from a jury in a civil case against a health insurer during selection because I answered in the negative to the question "do you trust corporate lawyers." I maintain that anyone who does is too stupid to be a juror, but in our legal system, it's mandatory.

Not all homeschooling is like this, but a large fraction in the US is fundamentalist Christian and deeply abusive, dovetailing with the rest of the Christofascist movement currently successfully dominating US politics. Highly recommend the work of Talia Lavin on this topic.

Thank you for speaking up on this, Representative Balint! ❤️

You are using a definition of "politics" that is neither correct nor useful. It's not a dirty word, even if it's often ugly.
comment in response to post
What makes you think it can't be both? Politics is downstream of ethics.

Not that the article isn't regurgitative garbage but are you sure this is an ad read? I think he's just saying you should throughly inspect used vehicles.

Isn't this being a good idea dependent mostly on whether one passes? I would be concerned about being outed as trans to a border control agent by that just as much as the opposite.

When will you make a video on the employment situation in the United States where you ask literally everyone if they have a job?
comment in response to post
I tentatively agree with you, but there's a clear mismatch between perception and reality, and between the boldness of the Democratic plank and the urgency of the moment. If "most progressive in your lifetime" still feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, does it matter?
comment in response to post
My feeling: everyone can see through the ruse, at this point. It's clear that the Democratic Party largely does not have any solutions and probably isn't even interested in having them. They just maintain the status quo. At least the Republicans believe in something. Awful things, but SOMETHING.
