The place I work at likely wouldn't give me $50 to go to a conference across the street from us.

Holy smokes that would be awesome. About a 1% chance my company would pay to send me, but I can beg. Thanks for the info!

Then there is the whole issue of the quality of the enzyme itself - the assays to check them are as much work as just doing the reaction, it seems. The transaminase I'm about to use was purchased in 1997. 😶

Hmmmm, interesting. Well I feel *better* about being a bit confused. On the other hand it sounds like a tough process to get conditions right fairly quickly.

Mostly I'm making amino acids. E.g., using Glutamine synthetase, for example, which I'm finding problematic. Aspartase (actually that one was easy). Transaminase is coming up for me to use.

I have to use a few enzymes to make things. I've never used them until recently. My real problem is being unsure if the conditions I use are really right, and also how to optimize the reactions.

I don’t recall anything particularly special about ChemTwitter. So far this has been better. No 500 ads per day here or tons of trolls. The postings about chemistry seems good here.

Very cool. In grad school I was one floor below a new Professor - Professor Schultz. And Kevan Shokat was one of Schultz's students. Talk about bright people.
