$280 *per family* is nothing. We’d be far better off collectively investing that money into social programs that make life more affordable for everyone by taking the things we depend on out of the market system.

Every comment about the ‘far left’ makes my eyes roll so hard it hurts. It would be far left to seize the means of production. Standing up for the right to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness should be understood as politically neutral territory.

City councillors who vote against housing developments because capitalism (and developers) are bad, what does this achieve except greater housing precarity? Instead, try putting energy into working for non-capitalist housing solutions. We need more social housing, co-ops, supportive housing, etc.
