The correct way to connect the authoritarian presence in LA and the Big Beautiful Bill is that the bill gives the government the resources to do this in dozens of cities at once. So if you don't like what's happening in LA, it's coming to your town if the bill passes.

what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

It’s not just that it’s clearly intentional, it’s that it’s clearly intentional knowing that he’s being recorded. They know they can do whatever they want with complete impunity.

Operation Mincemeat on the Tonys! Grateful to @memles.bsky.social for recommending that show when we were in London. So damn good.

They figured out after 2020 that there's actually no real need for there to be riots for "omg there are riots!" to be a widely adopted reality.

full blown police riot in progress. never let them reframe this.

If you’re looking for quality independent reporting on what’s happening in Los Angeles, I’ve put together a starter pack for it. If you’d like to be added or know an indie who should be added, hmu

I just–

“Look out Haskell, it's real!”

White folks watched a bunch of white folks sack the Capitol and then most of them be pardoned by the head of the white identity party and now we're supposed to listen to other white people pontificate about non-violence...

Willi Castro, baseball player for the Minnesota Twins used the trans flag as eye black to showcase his support for our community. I hope he realizes how much this matters for trans people. Especially when the MLB is considered to be a very macho sport. I have so much respect for him. King shit! 🏳️‍⚧️

“Tango One what’s your 20?” “Tango One is at the Pizza Hut, at the Taco Bell, Tango One is at the combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.”

Also it would be deeply ironic if CNN is forced to cut away from this telecast to cover events in LA.

Welcome to America, where protesting illegal kidnappings without due process is an insurrection, but attacking the nation’s Capitol is not.

This kid here, he mattered. He didn’t think so, and he could no longer stand to be here. But he mattered, and I loved him.

It makes me legitimately sad that society can think of no other response to tragedy than, charge someone with a crime. www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/...

obviously this is good on the merits but also: insisting that all people deserve autonomy, dignity, and equal protection before the law isn't so much 'doubling down on trans rights' it's just 'affirming a commitment to universal human rights'.

Well this couldn’t have come at a better time www.bbc.com/news/article...

Bri Turner is and will forever be the most hardcore baller in the league

Bri Turner is wearing the “trans youth belong” shirt, and the pic’s still up on the Indy Star site #Fever #WNBA www.indystar.com/picture-gall...

They're literally doing the meme

Somehow the "We need to support policies that are popular" crowd never land on the very popular polices like "taxing big corporation more," "making health care more affordable," or "paying teachers more." It's always just "be 10% more racist."

Hooooly shit. We've created a fake bullshit artist. No wonder human bullshit artists love it.

Absolute blast of a sport

very good thread

Also holy shit the Mariners Pride Month video is SO good

Our Catholic mission calls us to strive to be a community where every person—including those who identify as LGBTQ—are seen, valued, and supported, and the God-given dignity of each individual is upheld. This Pride Month, we renew our commitment to building the beloved community.

this is the most sociopathic thing ive ever seen and i wrote a whole book about neonazis

Never has any leader had so many people wanting to make the argument that “not wearing any clothes actually makes the emperor better dressed if you think about it.”

I am at a global health conference this week. I do not think Americans fully understand the degree of harm we have done to our international reputation and to our ability to wield soft power for decades to come.

Incredible

This is what happens when you put internet conspiracy theorists in charge of major government departments.

whoever did the advance work for this Kash Patel interview is about to find themselves with a one-way ticket to Guantanamo

He “rambled at times” is addressed in *paragraph 21* of this classic “clean up in Aisle 5” Times piece

He literally used a white nationalist Neo Nazi lie about white genocide in his meeting with President Ramaphosa you kumquats

In which the gender binary is ordained by biology, God, or both but also collapses if you enjoy some gazpacho on a warm day

Every time you buy a Harry Potter product, you are financing the dismantling of trans rights

This is a really excellent overview of the GOP's recent budget proposal bill with compelling visuals that show us the current administration's economic vision for the US: "You pay more for less." Thank you, @gelliottmorris.com www.gelliottmorris.com/p/republican...

In the 1180s BCE, several Bronze Age superpowers simultaneously collapsed, and a vast trade network came to a halt. Historians debate the catastrophic causes, but I suspect future historians will have less trouble diagnosing the cause of the 2025 rupture

This headline made me think science had figured out why orange cats are such goofballs, but apparently that discovery still awaits. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

When I interviewed KKK leaders in Arkansas, this is what they said too. “We don’t hate anyone. We just love our own people.” Then they burned a cross.
