She shot for the moon and landed among the stars 🚀 Faith Kipyegon’s Breaking4 mile attempt comes up short as she clocks a 4:06.42 time trial, 1.22 seconds faster than her 2023 official world record. Kipyegon hit 400m in 1:00.20, 800m in 2:00.63, and 1200m in 3:01.84 en route to her 4:06 finish.

Faith Kipyegon left it all out there. 4:06.42 mile. Fastest ever by a woman. #Breaking4

4:06.42 is the official time for Faith Kipyegon at the #Breaking4 event in Paris. That's faster than her 4:07.64 women's mile world record. That's the fastest mile ever by a woman. It will not count toward a world record due to the rotating cast of pacers and the spikes utilized.

"My favorite story about Faith is seeing her in anti-doping room afetr a meet. 'Oh, Faith! How did it go?' 'Yeah, it was really good. I'm really happy.' I'm checking my phone and I see WR, WR, WR. It just continues. She's a really great force to be reckoned with." – Keely Hodgkinson

"I feel I'm really tense. A lot of tension, even though I'm not running. I feel for Faith." – Eliud Kipchoge on how he's feeling ahead of Faith Kipyegon's sub-4 minute mile attempt in Paris shortly. He later added, "The world is just seven seconds away and today it will be broken here."

A look at Stade Sébastien Charléty for Faith Kipyegon's sub-4 minute mile attempt in Paris. She is slated to race under an hour from now. #Breaking4

Still a little bit of time to listen to our thoughts and predictions on Faith Kipyegon's sub-4 minute mile attempt today. Latest podcast episode: 🎧 SPOTIFY: spoti.fi/44ghY7y 🎧 APPLE PODCASTS: apple.co/3G9tJEW I'm going with 4:02.64 as my final prediction for what she runs.

“We took a decision on medal reallocation. There was a medal reallocation from the London 2012 1500m event in athletics due to an antidoping rule violation: The new silver medalist is Abeba Aregawi…and the new bronze medalist is Shannon Rowbury.” – IOC President Kristy Coventry

In 2024, eight men broke 3:30 for the 1500m all year. It's June 24th, 2025 and 11 men have already broken 3:30 for the 1500m – this does not include the three Paris Olympics medalists (Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse or Josh Kerr) yet.

Teenagers are breaking 3:30!? Kenya's 18-year-old Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech follows up his 3:27.72 at the Paris Diamond League with a 3:29.05 victory in Ostrava. Australian 19-year-old Cam Myers runs a PB of 3:29.80 for his first time under 3:30. That puts him at No. 4 on the World U20 list.

🇺🇸Josh Hoey just moved to No. 5 on the U.S. all-time 1500m list behind Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse, Bernard Lagat and Hobbs Kessler. He is the sixth man in U.S. history to break 3:30 for teh 1500m. His personal best coming into today was 3:33.66 from indoors in Boston this past February.

What the hell is happening in the men's 1500m this year?

The American record of 48.70 by Sanya Richards-Ross in 2006 may be on borrowed time. McLaughlin-Levrone is No. 2 on the U.S. all-time list.

POV: You’re trying to keep up with America’s best marathoners… 🇺🇸 Only made it .48 miles on the heels of Conner Mantz and Clayton Young during their 6-mile tempo run in Central Park. I’ve got my work cut out for me for LA 2028. 😅

Changed coming to NCAA track and XC programs very soon. Today, Washington State announced it will be shifting to a “distance-focused approach” and “field events will no longer be supported, effective immediately, and the number of sprint and hurdle opportunities will be limited moving forward.”

🗣️ “Yesterday in the 800m, I felt I raced like — you can fill in the blank. I didn’t give myself a chance to win it at all. Today, that was the goal…I can walk away from this happy knowing you had to work hard to beat me.” Cole Hocker reacts to his weekend at Grand Slam Track: Philadelphia

🗣️ “This is the best atmosphere that we’ve raced in as part of Grand Slam Track. When that happens, the track gets a little bit quicker, the track gets a little bit hotter and people are really going for the win.” Josh Kerr has now won back-to-back Grand Slam Track 1500m race.

🗣️ “You shouldn’t be surprised because you’ve been doing these things in practice. It’s literally just – practice makes perfect.” Melissa Jefferson-Wopden continues to put on a show at Grand Slam Track! Secured her 3rd Slam title with a 10.73 100m victory, which also tie her for No. 10 all-tome.

🗣️ “I keep receipts.” 🧾 When I saw Trevor Bassitt at the track on Friday, I straight up told him, “I don’t see how Alison Dos Santos isn’t going to continue sweeping these 400m and 400m hurdles races.” He didn’t have to tell me how — he showed me how. GRAND SLAM TRACK: PHILLY CHAMPION.

Mentioned this match-up on This Week In Track & Field to @preetmajithia.bsky.social about how I'm tired of Tebogo barely trying in these races. I need someone to step in & push him to the finish line or beat him. Courtney Lindsey was close in Doha! Kenny has looked like a man on a mission this year.
