A few different studies, but mainly, putting a load in individual containers with various food items and weighing them and prey over a few months - very little change. The outcome was that they seemed to be scavengers of damaged/unwell mussels which can't close well.

This was the subject of my Honours dissertation. Trying to find out what they eat revealed that they don't eat much!

Very interesting! In Australia and the the UK I have never had anyone say no when I've cheekily asked to see their successful grant application. Maybe I've just been lucky and asked nice folks. Share people! Everybody wins.

That's actually the opening to the mantle cavity. Their mantle isn't their head but their torso. Cephalopods don't have the head-torso-limb body plan like we do. Instead, they have the torso-head-limb body plan. See these horrifying but educational drawings by @dannastaaf.bsky.social
