after all, why does there even need to be a word like that, when each position can be explained on its individual merits. why do we need a singe word to describe those engaging with essentially every global south revolutionary movement, as though they are a single entity

nor is it necessarily a matter of the opinions of those regimes themselves, but the use of the term now, when it is thrown around, given the context my post is highlighting

it’s less to do with whether or not one finds totalitarianism objectionable, but on which regimes are interpreted as such, and when and why

damn, i really mangled this post, missing words n shit. sorry, i’m posting too fast, but you get the idea

it’s probably bc they aren’t engaging with thinkers outside of the west, since they think they’re all ā€œtankiesā€

or opposition to whatever the current phase of the forever war is, like even the stop the war coalition didn’t ever seem to look at it in a wider systemic way

how could i forget, i’m still recovering from being shredded by ā€˜ironic detachment is fascistā€. i think ur right that focus on imperialism is def something that only seems to come when you move left of DS. it might be there before but it’s not the focus, it’s just austerity & anti-tory mostly

on and on and on and on and on… and to question it, to point out that the senseless slaughter of millions is maybe not a good thing and that it should stop makes you a dangerous unpatriotic/unamerican/unbritish/antisemtic/whatever radical

Stuns me how barely anyone talks of the carnage US/UK/others committed in Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya anymore. Including some who today claim to be pro Palestine. Israel's brutality doesn't change the west's moral depravity.

the ā€œthis isn’t usā€ crowd of liberals and fake leftists are literally spitting on the graves of the literal hundreds of millions who have died of britain’s ā€˜values’

and as well as the brits that just conveniently forget about those conflicts, there’s all the ones that were apparently against it all along. it’s amazing how apparently the whole country was against those wars, because that’s not how i remember it. i was young, but i remember it well enough

and not just during the post-9/11 invasions but the ā€˜interventions’ in all of those countries for years before that led to deaths in the millions. ā€˜the death of 500,000 dead iraqi children was ā€œa very hard choice, but the price-we think the price is worth itā€ā€™ - madeleine albright, 1996

no payment can be extracted from them that will suffice. there is no punishment that can either undo the horrors or equate to a fraction of their deserts. but pay, they must. and fucking dearly

well then those israelis are even more screwed because they’ll have nowhere else to go

the wanton destruction. when you see the tears in peoples’s eyes holding their loved ones and then you see videos of the laughter and bloodthirstiness, i’ve never seen anything like it. it’s monstrous

indeed, illegal occupiers

just the world’s biggest military installation, funded entirely by the united states, while actual people just leave in droves and an any semblance of an economy is just replaced by american money
comment in response to post
of course, this is all based on the principle of israel continuing to function as something like the stolen country it is, it may be that they’ve accepted a reality as nothing more than the forward deployed position of white supremacy in the region that they are and nothing more besides

one of the periods of most pressure for israel was the beginning of the fighting with hezbollah, because the israeli’s in tel aviv began to feel the heat. iran is a much bigger deal
comment in response to post
picking on the gazans is one thing, but any kind of extended war with iran is another matter

it really is an incredible thing to consider, it seems too fictional, and yet, clearly it’s the case. the madness is like some colonel kurtz shit. it’s so disquieting and awful, and, scariest of all, widespread

i’ve been thinking about getting into wood burning too. i mean i’m already carving, so it’s just another way to add more to my own creations. i’m not sure whether i should try to master the one first though, or just fuck it and burn some wood because it’s fun

that seems fair, but only if we split each bear into three. it’s not enough just to divide the bears into three piles.

that’s great to hear. you said you were thinking about it when i mentioned it, so it’s nice to see you went ahead and got back into it. i love nice little hobbies to try to clear my head. i’ll send you some picture after i’ve painted it and added little leather strap. that’s the final phase!

sure am, whittled my first whittle (besides making sticks into smooth sticks). i went postmodern with it, i used my whittling knife to whittle the handle of another knife. got a throwing dagger without a handle and some pieces of walnut wood and turned it into a dagger with a handle!
