This actually used to get played on Baltimore AM radio. Bottom of the top 100 on Billboard. I still throw the full album on today for a trip back to 1973 or thereabouts.

I learned that almost all the blackberries in WA (which I love, despite their invasiveness!) come from one Cali seed company that blanketed WA with free seed packs in his catalogs in the 1800s. Luther Burbank. Also made the potato McDonald’s uses. Also a fan of eugenics, tho, so FTG

The PNW, where I live now, has a strawberry history. But berries here will never be as sweet on my tongue as the MD strawberries I grew up with. (Or tomatoes, or cantaloupes, or peaches. Oh hey, GA, I’m sure your peaches are even better, need to make it down there to enjoy a bushel!)

One of my favorite current books. Stoked to see you’re working on New History of DC Universe

Watching Tucker is flashbacks to every Campus Crusades for Christ kid I ever interacted with

I’d like a Commodores Stadium with a monthly Lionel Ritchie residency

Or I’d say trying to run it like a small time mob operation

15 years ago I would've agreed. America has tuned out mainstream media so much I'm not sure continued good reporting would be effective. (Or wouldn't get lost, as it does, amid normalizing reporting.) Instead we have a story of someone acting on their values by speaking out. We need more of that.

I should search some of those out. Looks like I got four EB songs, including Seeing, when I saw Bob with Petty and the Dead at RFK in '86. Plus Band of the Hand! Wish I remembered the show better. I'm sure I was most stoked for Band and Clean Cut Kid

And while everything doesn't have to be compared or ranked, this morning I'm thinking that Seeing the Real You at Last is indeed a better song that Pay In Blood. (And I'm a Tempest fan) (7/7)

Anyway, I get why people have a hard time finding their window into Empire Burlesque. I've been listening since release week, so it holds a special place for me. I'll always stand up for it. (And I did, in a @mojomagazine.bsky.social feature on "Unloved Albums!") (6/x)

Which reminded me of a review (don't remember the writer or pub, sorry!) of Tempest where someone said Pay in Blood was Stones-y or could've been a good Stones song (5/x) (Who knows, maybe Dylan really could've written Satisfaction, as the old yarn goes?)

What got me there was thinking that Seeing the Real You would be a great post '80s song for the Stones. (I'm not an expert or aficionado of that period for them; my fave set post Tattoo You is Keith's Talk Is Cheap album) (4/x)

This morning's revelation: hearing Seeing the Real You at Last as a precursor to Pay in Blood (2/x)

I knew someone who said “clove” of garlic but meant “head” of garlic, and I think that’s what should happen here

Thanks, that’s fun to see!

Q for the pinball peeps from an interested but ignorant fellow: if a machine is really popular — maybe not record setting popular, but y’know, a lotta people like it — how many are made?

Recounted this story to others today and they recoiled in horror. I don’t know if I’ve seen their eyes so big

I would love for someone to articulate why MAGA and GOP care the slightest bit about BlueSky? If their enemies have chosen a platform that (on MAGA/GOP eyes) is less powerful, why should that matter? Shouldn’t they encourage it? I’m missing something unspoken

👀👀👀 Thanks for that! And congrats!

Deniz, as someone who loves comics (ACE and AMM notably) but doesn’t follow the industry, I’m always curious about subsequent printings. Like, how many is a lot? Four sounds like a lot to the uninitiated. And I saw Absolute Batman going into 7th. Any context you can share?

The bagel corollary to this, for me, is that while everythings could use salt (or a tiny bit more), actual salt bagels in most places are like a mountain of sodium chloride with a li'l' bread underneath

Sweet! Er, sour. And salty!

Does it have salt? 🤞🏻 Everything bagels sans salt always feel just short of perfection 😂
