Still a shame that Branson was apparently talked out of calling it “Riff-Raff” when they launched Virgin

Trump getting desperate to announce any deals? His claims that everyone is desperate to kiss his @$&e are starting to wear rather thin. China in particular is noticeably enjoying watching him twist in the wind…

Exactly. Can’t see why anyone is getting upset by this. They’re just telling the orange felon that OF COURSE they’re trying to help it happen. So so Sad that the R&A makes the decision isn’t it…. That way they stave off some other lunacy that he might otherwise threaten the UK with

AIUI this is/was about de minimis shipments from China…
Obv it was easier for UK businesses when they were effectively ‘local’ pre 2016 before the knuckle-draggers got their way😵💫

I have no problem with B2B on whatever scale they want to trade in (although reliance on express parcels by air has serious environmental issues as it’s by air). It’s B2C that’s a problem for the reasons I outlined. The ‘C’ needs the consumer protections that come from buying locally

But anything bought B2C direct from China could be either/both fake or shoddy and you have no recourse. I’d prefer to have an identifiable entity onshore to deal with which has to comply with rules & regs. Cutting out the middleman doesn’t make sense when the middleman serves a purpose

I’d rather s/he be able to continue to get the part from their local plumbing supplies store that hasn’t been put out of business by shoddy fake parts made by slave labour in Xinjiang

Fox etc will always try to smear the Dem candidate as a socialist etc so why not run an actual socialist…. Anyone who might be able to mobilise even some of the 50% of the US population who don’t bother to vote might be in with a chance surely…

The total lack of any health & safety protections, enforceable warranties or consumer protections of any form are problematic enough when dealing via ‘Marketplaces’ or eBay but at least there’s some sense of who your counterpart might be. Direct shipping like this is a Wild West so happy to see this

I’d say that this is the essence of all populism but that the right wing generally has less jargon & general verbiage to hide this simple fact whereas left wingers are more inclined to hide it in a word salad or six

This was one of the cartoons around when he ‘achieved’ his wonder deal with North Korea last time around. I reckon that the only people who think he’s a great deal maker are the SA me ones who think he was a successful businessman

They are “rare” because they are found in VERY low concentrations but they can be found quite widely. AIUI China has dominated because it was willing to take on the environmental risks of the dirty refining process more than anything else

The words “capital controls” were always some of the most chilling to investor sentiment. Exceeded in their impact only by STIs and beer shortages

Average trade weighted tariffs of 26% weighing in the US consumer don’t exactly suggest that this is over even if the markets are off chasing a bright shiny thing this afternoon…

We have no choice but to be patient. We need time for the unwind. The last thing we can afford to do is to make a big song & dance about it and attract the moron’s attention.

How long before someone decides on the ‘Epstein Solution’ - threaten enough powerful/rich people in the US with disgrace/poverty and your life expectancy is somewhat limited…. Trouble is then we get Vance which probably isn’t much of an upgrade
