My Pharaonic US vision: pepper the Southwest deserts with thermal solar plants + HVDC (or some other low loss transmission to the Pacific) +/- a couple of nukes for baseload = Massive Desalination ➡️ brine mining for metals ➡️ water piped back to the US SW to end the deserts
