Think the news about this was the 1st thing to make me smile post election. Disturbing to see Musk might be sticking his nose in!

Why, thank you! Love Octavia Butler, especially the Xenogenesis Chronicles, but hadn't been clued into Rebecca Roanhorse. Alas, there is a wait list on them at my library, but I have added to my holds.

Hmm, I am pretty sure JB Pritzker, for one, already has his eye on 2028! Not that I am complaining. Except that I would hate to lose one of our rare governors who isn't likely to end up in jail for corruption! Which reminds me, still irked Trump pardoned Blago!

I suppose you also think it is acceptable to "think for yourself" and hold opinions based on your values! No doubt about it, you must be a left-wing lunatic!

Well, no doubt! Clearly, you are a member of the "smug elites" controlling everything with your ability to explore & embrace knowledge. You would be less threatening if you would simply accept the BS spouted by idiots or those looking to take advantage of you. How dare you educate your mind! 😉

3) Our outrage didn't have a positive impact on the election results.
4) So...?

I think a good number do get paid through a normal payroll process. Guess I should be clarifying terms. We tend to label incorrectly from time to time. Asylum seekers, for example, can apply for a work permit. In which case they can be legally hired, and normal payroll processes can be used.

or, if I am feeling more cynical because we "want" to take advantage of them, as 2nd class citizens. "We" being the US in general. Bad enough. The fact that they are also being so maligned by the right is just horrific.

Actually, as I understand it, they pay into Social Security and Medicare but can't claim it. Just another way we benefit from them. As someone else said, I find it more concerning that we keep them as 2nd class citizens...mostly because we don't have a reasonable path to citizenship...
