Back in the familiar territory of a university

I will be interviewing Dr Warren for @histassoc.bsky.social this evening! Tune in! It promises to be a very interesting session exploring his research on the historical links between birds, place names and the natural history of England.

It's the weekend, baby

All the toilets I have visited in Amsterdam and Haarlem have been gender neutral and there’s been absolutely zero problems. No one here minds. So yeah, why can’t we do this in the UK?

Me watching Elon Musk and Donald Trump fall out with each other.

I love bees 🐝 ❤️

We ate a lot of pie in Amsterdam tonight ❤️🥧

Today was a wonderful day to be a South Londoner 🦅❤️

This is going to sound incredibly earnest and preachy but fuck it. Support creative people. Buy their stuff. Share it on here. Music, art, words, whatever. Things made by humans for humans.

Today I really had to restrain myself from buying this bath bomb in the shape of a Viking axe 🤣

It’s Mary Anning’s birthday, so time to share @katebeaton.bsky.social’s brilliant cartoon again.

Friends. 💕 Photo from my collection, 1963.

Just a reminder that your local library has more than books! Many also have dvds, cds, board games, video game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, computers, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, passport services and so much more! Maybe it's time for a visit 📚❤️

This came in the post last week. Very excited to read it! #publichistory #americangirlanthology #childrenshistoricalfiction

Thank fuck for that! Eurovision doesn’t have to go to Israel next year. And a good plus is that the young Austrian singer is a fantastic counter tenor and his song is pretty good. #eurovision

Quite apart from anything else, Israel’s song was shit #eurovision

Please god do not let Israel win this. Wft. #eurovision

Thank goodness someone gave Iceland some points. #eurovision

These jury results have gone on so long that I’ve managed to squeeze in 3 extra German lessons on Duolingo at the same time #eurovision

I am SO looking forward to the YouTube videos from Americans reacting to the Baby Lasagna vs Käärijä mash-up. The "what the fuck am I watching?" will be truly epic to behold #Eurovision #Eurovision2025 #ESC2025

“Island of strangers”? Not the UK we’ve seen. After 18 months of chats across the UK, one message is loud and clear: people want connection. 🧡 They’re asking for libraries, noticeboards, co-ops, community spaces - not division. We’re not strangers. We’re neighbours, creatives, problem-solvers.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we just taxed wealth enough that we didn’t have billionaires and instead we all had nice things like great schools, beautiful parks, excellent public transit, clean air, etc?

The rhetoric of this government threatens to create a more angry and divided world. What can we do? Every day, people are creating a different world on the ground. Today @westlondonwelcome.bsky.social posted this, reminding me we can hold faith with that world of connection and kindness:

Day 4 #randomobjects

Wonderful to see Lennie James win a BAFTA for Bernardine Evaristo’s Mr Loverman. I thought he was phenomenal in the role of Barrington Walker.

Watching the BAFTAs and found out Jean Marsh has died. Broke my heart a little bit. I always admired her for her work on Upstairs and Downstairs as co-creator of the historical drama and for portraying Edwardian housemaid Rose.

This little fellow missed me. #olafthecat

Back in London at home in my own little corner of paradise.

I’ve driven elder daughter to a place where nightingales sing. Here’s 60 seconds of one of the most beautiful sounds on earth:

Bye bye Liverpool! I’m sure I will be back someday! #HAconf25

Wonderful trip to the Museum of Liverpool to learn about the city during WWII and the lives of inspiring Black Liverpudlians as part of the @histassoc.bsky.social conference. #HAconf25 #museumofliverpool

We're very pleased to be attending the 2025 @histassoc.bsky.social conference in Liverpool today. If you're there too, please visit our stand in the exhibition area to pick up one of our new badges: designed for historians of all kinds who understand the value of the past. #HAconf25 #Skystorians

This year our very own publications manager Martin has been using his artistic talents to document some of the sessions at the @histassoc.bsky.social conference. #haconf25

At the @histassoc.bsky.social conference and the competition was fierce in the craft round of our Friday night quiz! These were all crafty interpretations of historic sites… #haconf25

It’s the @histassoc.bsky.social conference this weekend and I’ve managed to find some historical Top Trumps! #haconf25

The UK is reportedly in discussions over the recognition of a Palestinian state. We once again urge our leaders to play their part in bringing the 58-year occupation to an end and recognise the state of Palestine with immediate effect. www.quaker.org.uk/news-and-eve...

Dramatic graduation cap throwing 🤣

Officially a Birkbeck masters graduate! @bbkhistorical.bsky.social

Tonight’s HA Virtual Branch is a fascinating lecture delivered by Professor Mary Wiesner-Hanks on women and the reformations @histassoc.bsky.social

Louis Theroux’s new documentary is just chilling. A perfect example of the extremism, bigotry and cruelty Palestinians are facing every day in the West Bank.

Look at this little croissant 🥐 ❤️ #urbanwildlife #londonfox

Of course I have purchased two books 🤣

Humans: A Monstrous History with Dr Surekha Davies. She’s not only exploring monsters in history but she grew up watching Star Trek! My two favourite topics align! #histfest2025 @histfest.bsky.social
