The conditions weren’t bad, unless you were a Puritan fundamentalist that hated every other Christian in the country. They left because everyone else stopped tolerating their shit

Did I choose for people who lived here 500 years ago to go do exploitation and colonialism? No I did not, and I absolutely abhor the UK’s history in such. In my city we’ve been pulling down all the monuments to those filthy colonialist businessmen and sinking them into the river where they belong

I live in the United Kingdom, thank you very much

I’m not saying spirituality isn’t a good thing, I myself am spiritual, but it is a rather secular problem we are currently discussing

Artificial intelligence is a double edged sword. In theory it could make work obsolete and allow humanity to live comfortably without scarcity, but equally it can be used by corporations to make labour irrelevant without actually helping anyone except their shareholders

I don’t think the idea of God needs to come into any of this, it is irrelevant and doesn’t address anything

It is not, capitalism time and time again proves that it needs an exploited underclass that they can make society hate, since then corporations have a population desperate for any work it can get. If it can’t get it naturally, it will move to slavery as it has many times

You are sorely mistaken, racist nationalism is simply the end form of capitalism, and socialism can absolutely stand up to it

I don’t see how I’m connected to that though frankly, why would I care what someone’s skin colour is? It feels like you’re trying to project ideas onto me that aren’t mine at all

And it will change by you and a handful of other people on Bluesky not having kids, whilst the rest of the world keeps having them because they rely on children to care for them in their old age?
Why is it suddenly racist to think people should still have kids? How does that compute?

You aren’t willing to suffer at all, you have simply taken the path that makes you feel the least guilty about doing nothing. I’m at least taking a stand and protesting against this corrupt establishment.
Personally, as a woman, it sounds pretty gross to speak about women that way too

It is not, whatsoever. Our problems will not be solved by simply not having children, because we need more people to be able to enact change. The world can support far more people than it can now, but capitalism must change or be abolished
comment in response to

Explain this then, you don’t care about what happens to the world
comment in response to
post
That means absolutely nothing for the problems though, and you can absolutely have an impact if you actually try, rather than throwing your hands up and ignoring the problem. You do not care what happens to people who will live to suffer the consequences whatsoever
comment in response to
post
It isn’t, also you were saying that by not having kids, you won’t have to care anymore. If nothing else, you’re just proving that you don’t care about the people who will have to suffer, and would rather just have humanity die out than to actually solve the problems we have

You are not engaging in harm reduction, you are simply trying to cleanse your hands of the problem. Actually advocating for improvements in the situation would be harm reduction

You are not eliminating suffering that way, you are simply absolving yourself of any personal stakes or responsibility for suffering that occurs after you’re gone
comment in response to

That really isn’t a solution, the world is still getting worse now, and it’s incredibly fucking selfish not to care about future generations at all simply because you personally have no stake

Don’t forget that if Trump does put a stop to their research in the US, they’ll probably just move to the EU, UK or the like to continue. The US might lose out, but I’m confident we’ll still see these advances continue

Hopefully it just means Europe is at the forefront again. The EU certainly isn’t cutting research, and the UK is still doing better than the US

Thank you so much!!! I was incredibly meticulous about it on both counts, and I’m incredibly proud of what I did
