The government has set up a water commission to conduct the biggest review since privatisation. I just asked them to back bringing water companies into public ownership. Join me: weownit.org.uk/act-now/wate... @joemorrismp.bsky.social @catchmentsteward.bsky.social @cleanilkley.bsky.social

Since exiting the EU chemical regulation system, the UK has not restricted a single chemical substance. In that time, the EU has restricted or banned 10 harmful substances. But they have had a good long think about maybe possibly banning lead shot. www.sustainableviews.com/more-than-fo...

FOI to @EnvAgency on costs to date of their criminal investigation into illegal pollution discovered by @WindrushWasp and the answer is? £5.9M !!!!! How about that was used to regulate so they didn’t pollute? Novel!!

Last night only THREE peers in the House of Lords called for public ownership of England's water industry. That was me, Jenny Jones & Natalie Bennett (Green Party) out of a membership of 827. Public ownership officially opposed by Labour, Tories and LibDems. Most people want to end the scandal.

Thames Water wants to be spared billions of pounds of costs and fines over the next 5 years. TW ripped off customers, dumped sewage in rivers, neglected investment, borrowed money to pay dividends. Laws must apply. No public bailout. Let it go bankrupt. Nationalise for nominal sum.

t.co/NBvFFwCNHv Thames Water: Inside the crisis: is anyone watching? They want positive feedback back, what a joke! Will give that when they stop profiting from polluting our rivers! @cleanilkley.bsky.social @thames21.bsky.social @henleymermaids.bsky.social @beneath-b-waters.bsky.social

Bailouts won't fix the sewage scandal and won't reduce bills. Join me and @GoodLawProject to call on Steve Reed to stop water company greed goodlaw.social/uk6y

Cunliffe Commission to improve the current system. John C on radio 4 The key he says is lining up incentives. Apparently investors have lost all their money. The solution is the regulatory system with more invt at regional level. Lack of strategy.

Lost opportunity “The Commission is seeking views on what has driven the deterioration in customers trust and what is needed to restore trust given that bills will need to increase to fund the required improvements in infrastructure.” not about Trust it’s about delivery. Bill rises not inevitable

We are shocked to see Christine Hodgson, Chair Severn Trent on the shortlist for @thetimes Non Executive Director award. Ofwat &EA is investigating Severn Trent for not meeting its obligations for environmental performance and sewage pollution. That's a criminal investigation.

Look at this. from 2018 projecting the impact of 3% bill rises over income rises - not the massive % we are now getting - where people spending over 3% of their total income on water over 40% in water poverty. ccw.org.uk/app/uploads/20…

This Tuesday at Ilkley Christchurch 7.30. All welcome - £2.50 for non members. See you there.

@alastairchisholm.bsky.social hi Alastair we are about to launch just checking if you received our email invite - I’ll resend

para 288 "In my judgment, the addition of a potential £3 billion of debt at high interest rates and high cost is bound to have a long-term effect on the quality of public services especially if the equity raise is unsuccessful and no further restructuring is possible"

Judge says "The costs of finance and adviser fees in the present case are very high. Indeed, they might be described as eye-watering ...." What a mess ofwat SteveReedMP you are permitting...

Judge sets out that the alternative to the Plan A creditors is Special Administration, not the Plan B. This was all about money not about compliance with the law in terms of performance. Add that in and its time Ofwat and SteveReedMP you move to SAR.

So now what stopping @SteveReedMP as this judgment damning? Are you being bullied by international creditors with false claims that they are the UK growth saviours?

Judge rules that the only option to bailout is SAR. Gov need to apply for SAR (they haven't - they supported bailout) This judgement only about the £ which judge says will have long term effect on customers. Add in horrendous performance and the case for SAR has been made.

caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ewhc/ch/2025... para 285

@ThamesWater say the massive debt does not affect the public. The judge did not agree "In my judgment, the customers of Thames Water and the members of the public who are the recipients of those vital public services are plainly affected by a decision to sanction the Plan."

news.sky.com/story/whats-...

"Under cross-examination, Thames Water’s chief financial officer conceded its total bill on restructuring lawyers and advisers could also climb to £200mn." Everyone's getting fat, except us poor saps who pay the bills. But we do have some plans... watch later this week. www.ft.com/content/3548...

High Court ruling expected this week on whether Thames Water can borrow another £3bn at 9.75%. If allowed customer bills will rise, sewage dumping & dividends will continue. If not, bankruptcy looms. Govt wants to temporarily renationalise, then reprivatisatise. Wrong policy. archive.ph/OTgtH
