A very familiar spot - from childhood day trips to teenage bicycle tours, and many visits as adults. OHโ€™s cousin ran the High Force Hotel for a while. ๐Ÿ™‚

I havenโ€™t seen any forked lightning - just loads of flashes through the clouds.

A rather dull damp day but the Knapweed is making itโ€™s presence felt ๐Ÿ™‚ This is the road verge beyond our hedge which I have, ahem, commandeered ๐Ÿ‘€ Or perhaps I can say, reclaimed for insects.

Yes - that will make a big difference. I take note of whatโ€™s growing locally too. Knapweed does well for instance - just starting to flower now.

Thereโ€™s no stopping it - pops up all over the place now. Maybe it just likes our soil. Fairly sandy and poor quality. We always had a โ€˜weedyโ€™ lawn, and never treated it with anything. Buttercups and hawkbit thrive so itโ€™s a very yellow themed meadow.

Not as much work as you might think. First year I mowed ultra short in the autumn and raked so you could see some bare soil. Scattered the seed and bingo - it reappears every year and I collect seed to put elsewhere. All I do is mow it short in autumn and early spring ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I was planning to eat cake at Acorn Bank Nat Trust today for a birthday treat but discovered the cafe was closed on Thursdays ๐Ÿ™„ Called in at local garden centre tearoom and had delicious lemon squidgy cake. Nice coffee too. And bought a bargain garden bench! Win win ๐Ÿ˜€

Iโ€™m sure there are more buttercuppery fields round here this year. Whether itโ€™s by accident or design I donโ€™t know but theyโ€™re lovely.

๐Ÿ˜ƒ We have House Martin nests either side of our front door - and not very high up because itโ€™s a bungalow. They give out a few alarm calls when they see us but otherwise just get on with raising their families. Love having them - though I do have to put sand under to catch all the poop ๐Ÿ™„

Yes you have to be a little circumspect - it has a habit of telling you thereโ€™s a rare wader nearby when itโ€™s actually a thrush ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ However - itโ€™s a great tool and I use it most times I go out - often for confirmation but it throws up some nice surprises now and then ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
