So proud to be part of the push to get the center-running bus model on the north end of the Flatbush corridor, which has some of the slowest speeds and highest ridership during peak hours 🚌 Big thank you to @ridersalliance.org iance for all of their work on this! gothamist.com/news/brookly...

Eid Mubarak to all! Wishing everyone a joyous day filled with good eats, many blessings, and togetherness 🧡🌙

Amid an affordability crisis, the NYC Water Board is proposing a 3.7% hike. I urged them to reject it by submitting testimony earlier this week. New Yorkers need relief, not higher bills on essential utilities. My full testimony ⬇️🥤🌊

I was thrilled to celebrate the completed restoration of the Grand Army Plaza Arch this morning! This arch is a gateway to Brooklyn’s Backyard and honors the Civil War, reflecting the values we hold as Brooklynites. Tours will be open to the public later this month!

Grand Army Plaza, envisioned as the entrance to Prospect Park, is restored! The arch is back! Congrats Prospect Park Alliance and @nycgovparks.org! @NY4P was very happy to be a part of the ribbon cutting! @cmshahanahanif.bsky.social @nyamcunningham.bsky.social @bkbpreynoso.bsky.social

Co-Chairs @tiffany_caban and @ebottcher are spot on: NYC must be a safe harbor for our trans siblings. Proud to work with them on the Affirm Act (now in effect) & the Protect Trans Futures Package to strengthen legal protections for TGNCNBI folks. www.cityandstateny.com/opinion/2025...

These deadlines and damages represent accountability measures negotiated by the BrooklynSpeaks coalition and community advocates back in 2014 to prevent developers from breaking promises without consequence. Brooklyn was promised housing, and we demand it. gothamist.com/news/brookly...

How are Federal policies impacting State & City budgets? Join us for a Community Town Hall on this topic. We will hear from a panel of experts, followed by audience Q&A. - Sat. June 7th at 11am - MS 51, 350 5th Ave. Brooklyn - RSVP: bit.ly/lighttheway-june7

Child care should not be a financial burden on families, costing more than rent and forcing them to leave NYC altogether. We can't let our families down in the FY26 budget. Mayor Adams must include 2-Care in the final budget. Families are counting on it. @ny4childcare.bsky.social @unhny.bsky.social

I’m encouraged that Judge Rosado is upholding the TRO against Mayor Adams’ order allowing ICE at Rikers. City agencies shouldn’t act as an extension of the Trump admin’s harmful deportation agenda. Proud to be part of a Council defending the rights of all New Yorkers. council.nyc.gov/press/2025/0...

870+ affordable apartments at Atlantic Yards are still unbuilt. This isn't just a delay. It’s causing displacement. We must hold developers accountable, collect the penalties and build the housing. Thank you to Brooklyn Speaks for holding today’s press conference.

This month, we will start painting and structural repairs on the F Train line between Ditmas Avenue and Avenue P. The first phase, from Cortelyou Road to Avenue F, will operate daily from 7 AM to 5 PM. The project is expected to finish in late 2027. Questions? Call/text (516) 757-6418.

Council Member Paladino’s call to deport a U.S. citizen and elected official—or anyone—is despicable. This kind of threat spews division and hatred. It’s a blatant display of xenophobia and Islamophobia that has no place in our city. We all have a responsibility to call it out.

NYC's Human Rights Law is one of the most robust local human rights laws in the country, but we need expanded resources for @nycchr.bsky.social to ensure its full implementation. We must increase their budget by $6M to enhance their capacity and effectiveness. www.amny.com/housing/advo...

Budget cuts & delays from D.C. and Albany are making headlines, but what do they mean for our neighborhoods? Join us this Saturday, 6/7, for a Community Town Hall to learn about the impacts of federal policies on the state & city budgets. 🏦 RSVP at bit.ly/lighttheway-...

I’m horrified by the antisemitic attack that took place in Boulder, CO, right before Shavuot. Targeting Jews at a peaceful gathering for Israeli hostages is morally reprehensible and can never be justified. I unequivocally denounce this violence and all forms of antisemitism.

We were proud to present Camp Friendship a citation this morning to celebrate 5 years of their food pantry program!🍎🥦 They feed 500-600 families weekly and have become a trusted source of help for our neighbors. I couldn’t be more proud to support them! A big thank you to the dedicated volunteers!

Thank you @nycsanitation.bsky.social for a productive walkthrough in Kensington this morning! As the weather warms and more people are out, we're hopeful that increased signage, ongoing engagement, and the solutions discussed today will keep our neighborhood cleaner and safer for all. ☀️🗑️

This year, more than 93,000 New Yorkers voted in Participatory Budgeting to decide how $30M will be allocated for local improvements to schools, parks, libraries, and other spaces across 24 Council Districts! Check out the full list of winning proposals: council.nyc.gov/press/2025/0...

Honored to speak at Brooklyn Org’s Community Forum @bricbrooklyn.bsky.social Affordability, housing & mental health are top of mind for New Yorkers. I was grateful to join fellow change makers who are tackling these issues and fighting for a safer, more equitable future Brooklyn. 🏠🌱

STATED THREAD 🧵 Today, the Council passed my Resolution 368, urging Congress to enact the Living Wage for Musicians Act. Musicians currently earn less than a third of a penny per stream. The LWMA would raise streaming payouts and ensure fair pay for the artists who power our playlists.

BREAKING: Resolution 368 PASSES! Thank you @cmshahanahanif.bsky.social for sponsoring the resolution in support of the Living Wage for Musicians Act 💪

Delivery workers are rallying at City Hall to demand the administration put an end to giving cyclists criminal summonses for traffic violations

May is Jewish American Heritage Month, a time to honor NYC’s Jewish community, but also ensure their safety amid rising antisemitism. Following discussions with Jewish leaders & organizations, I authored Int 203 to require an annual public awareness campaign against antisemitism.

Dignified Food Access! Remarks from my hardworking council member: @cmshahanahanif.bsky.social

I'm grateful for the 60 @fdny.bsky.social and EMS personnel who responded to this morning's fire in Kensington. I'm relieved that no one was injured. My office is in contact with responding orgs offering additional resources to affected residents as they navigate this challenging time.

Our office will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day. You can still reach us at [email protected] or leave a voicemail at (718) 499-1090, and we will respond once we return on Tuesday, May 27.

Yesterday, I announced an additional $20k for Gotham Food Pantry & CHiPS to cover costs previously funded by federal programs. As Trump, Musk, & Congressional Republicans cut anti-hunger initiatives, I'm proud to support these orgs in continuing their work in our community.

🚉Transit Alert: Starting tonight, through Tuesday, 5/27, @nyctransit.bsky.social will conduct crane operations to support escalator replacements at the Smith/9th Street station. Crews will remove old escalators and install new equipment through the station roof. Here's what to expect 👇

Seven state and local leaders from BK endorsed our Crisis to Care plan, a blueprint to true community safety. Their support comes just in time for today’s Executive Budget hearing with the Committee on Mental Health, Disabilities, and Addiction, where we’re calling for real investment in care.

Heartbroken by the tragic murder of Israeli Embassy aides Yaron Lischinsky & Sarah Lynn Milgrim outside an AJC event in DC. There is no justification for this violence. Antisemitism is dangerous & unacceptable. It has no place in our communities, the pro-Palestinian movement or anywhere else. (1/2)

Our Caucus Co-Chairs @cmshahanahanif.bsky.social and @cmsandynurse.bsky.social, and Vice Co-Chairs @cmjengutierrez.bsky.social and @cndelarosa.bsky.social issued a statement in response to a targeted shooting outside the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.:

Not having a library has been a real loss for Carroll Gardens. I’ve heard it from so many of you. That’s why we got to work — organizing across agencies to open a temporary library around the corner, coming this July. I’m proud to help bring this to life for our community 📚
