Has the EU been too soft and compromising in its response to Trump 2 so far? @shahinvallee.bsky.social has a good piece on this in @ipq.bsky.social. Discuss. ip-quarterly.com/en/how-eu-bo...

My home town #Cologne is currently evacuating more people than at any time since WW2. Radius of 1km, more than 20,000 people, a hospital, 3 bridges, a train station and plenty of offices. The reason is the defusing of 3 American WW2 bombs.

Last week, the State Department published a Substack post accusing European allies of destroying democracy. I looked into the author, and found out that he was a disciple of Adrian Vermeule who believed in infiltrating the bureaucracy to undermine liberalism www.vox.com/on-the-right...

The England cost path is stunningly beautiful every time.

Stanley Fischer— so many contributions but I want to highlight. His speech on need for an international lender of resort which argued for IMF to play that role. Over time as $-funding has become more important, CB swap lines led by the Fed mimic part of that role

I think @agathedemarais.bsky.social has a point here. www.politico.eu/article/euro...

Fair.

Why is Nürnberg spelled so ... wrong in English? Nuremberg. Looks like a typo.

Big news from Germany: ”Germany will start financing the production of long-range weapons systems in Ukraine. The two ministers [Pistorius and Umerov] signed an agreement in Berlin. It is part of Germany's commitment to invest directly in Ukrainian arms production.” Initial sum named €5 billion

What's the age limit on those troops?

Oh god they’re so chic they make me want to do a referendum, shall we do a cheeky little referendum lads

**Commission's NECPs assessment just released: The EU is well on track to meet its 2030 targets of cutting net GHG emissions by 55% and raising the RES share to 42.5%. However, further efforts are needed to reduce energy consumption by 11.7%, it reads commission.europa.eu/publications... 🧵

I am sure she wanted Schwab to tell the press about that as part of his internal conflict at WEF. www.ft.com/content/6bd1...

Part of a good thread on German investment figures. The Merz government inflates the %-numbers by using the wrong comparisons. Despite killing the debt brake, the new government plans to increase investment by ... 14bn. That is a rounding error, not an investment budget.

Welcome to Cologne! But as a youth player from a Dutch team, he does not fulfil the local player criteria. Damn. One less player to register for the Champions League.
