LWX issues Flash Flood Emergency [flash flood: observed, flash flood damage threat: catastrophic] for Greene [VA] till May 14, 12:45 AM EDT Link

Significant flash flooding event starting to unfold across central VA.

Growing wildfire southeast of Shippensburg, PA this afternoon. Seems to be located in a large wooded area.

We often (rightly) see maps like these showing how good SPC convective outlooks are; let's also give some kudos to WPC for some outstanding excessive rainfall outlooks for this event. Especially impressive are the day 5 outlooks, giving advance notice of prolonged excessive rainfall and flood risk.

Flood/flash flood reports as well as top rainfall reports going back to last Wednesday. Over 15 inches in parts of western Kentucky. ☔️🌧️

FFE for Little Rock, AR

First FFE from the Paducah office for this event.

Excessive rainfall event just getting started in the Mid-South. (18z HRRR through tomorrow)

Many areas hit by yesterday’s tornado outbreak now expected to go through “significant and life-threatening flash flooding” today.

First of what will be many MPDs from WPC over the next few days. “Flash Flooding Likely” and sadly going to prime the soils for more severe flooding impacts.

Can’t really sound the alarm more than a day 3 high risk of excessive rainfall.

Heavy rainfall threat this week. (Via WPC social media)

The Weather Prediction Center issues Day 5 Excessive Rainfall Outlook (Max Risk: Moderate) at Mar 30, 7:22z Link

Congrats to the Midwest! Heavy snow and blizzard conditions expected this week. ❄️❄️

Yupp! Numerous reports of flooded roads and in this case actual homes flooded in northeast Mississippi.

Flash flooding also a concern across the Tennessee Valley tomorrow… because you can’t have enough hazards.

Between early retirements, deferred resignations, and probationary employees. About 10% of the NOAA workforce is gone right before the spring severe/flash flood season. 😔

🤦‍♂️

Crazy snowfall gradient occurring in eastern Maryland and southern Delaware. Been a nice winter for snowfall in these places. Congrats Salisbury and OCMD! ❄️

Up to at least 14 flood-related fatalities from this event…

S/O to everyone working over the holiday weekend communicating a very busy and hazardous mid-Feb weather pattern (including the flash flooding and severe weather yesterday).

Concerning flash flooding set up tomorrow.

❄️👀

Medford, OR had had a top 10 snowiest day on record yesterday with 6.3” of snow.

A snow squall is a brief period of heavy snowfall with reduced winds & low visibility. Snow squalls are possible today (1/27) through Wednesday for the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, & Northeast. Get 4 tips on how to stay safe during a snow squall: www.noaa.gov/stories/4-ti... @nws.noaa.gov

Heaviest snowfall in recorded history across the state of Florida was 4”. Already have a report in the western panhandle of 5.5”, will likely see totals even higher than that before it’s all said and done.

Heads up for the Weather Community! You can now find NOAA (@noaa.gov), NOAA Climate (@climate.noaa.gov) & NWS HQ (@nws.noaa.gov; still being set up) on Bluesky!

Current conditions in the FL Panhandle near Crestview. Surprised to see many cars on the roads still when clicking through webcams. ☃️❄️ #FLwx

8” of snow so far in Lafayette, LA which doubles the most snow seen there since the 1895 storm dropped 14”. Very impressive!

LWX issues Winter Storm Watch (34 zones) Link

Busy set of night shifts so far. Here’s an update from WPC on the significant winter storm set to begin across the Central Plains today.

Next shot of winter on the way to start 2025 should be fun for someone along the East Coast. ☃️❄️

Oof! Gaylord, MI down to -20 this morning. 🥶

A bit of a pressure gradient tonight… 101 millibars to be exact.

Save some for the rest of us CO/NM! Impressive first snowstorm of the year in the High Plains and Southern Rockies. ❄️☃️

Had to go to Paradise (Washington) in order to find some snow. ☃️

Don’t underestimate the fresh water flooding threat associated with Milton. 100 year ARIs showing up from WPC’s overnight QPF and the latest 12z HREF depicts up to 7-10” of rain could fall within 6 hours near Tampa, to the north of the storm’s center.
