There's a strange saviour complex with some readers, they make themselves responsible for the well-being of people they admire, then get overwhelmed by the responsibility. And it's like, I can take care of myself. Just pay for my work if you like it. Used to see this in theatre all the time.

The headline gets the name of the game wrong and the intro paragraph gets it right!

"its bad as an adaptation if you're a fan of the game and it's just a bad tv show if you're not"
This is it. Every scene they remake from the game is worse and almost every new scene is bad TV. Some things work, like pushing back Ellie and Dina hooking up, but they're not better.

I've been knocked around and exploited and undervalued plenty of times so it's no big deal, but it still sucks that the current way to survive as a games critic is to turtle up with your buds and lock the door

I recently experienced the very strange situation of having one of those new-fangled independently-owned sites, run by a guy I used to write for, take a column I used to write and turn it into a new video series without even a heads up to me--same title and everything!

My first article is a reflection on the last month of games media discourse, squabbling, and layoffs, but it is mainly me just begging people to grow up and start building from the bottom.

What could the metrics on this possibly be? The Hunger Games guy making a movie for guys in their 40s sure sounds like a future "Netflix says this is a hit but we can't confirm that so who knows?" headline

I always felt the hyper-fixation on plot comes from social media, blogs, and YouTube. You don't have to think about a movie to post about it--just recap what happens and whether or not you "liked" it.
