Mostly here for politics bc basically 0 politicians are on Mastodon. I also enjoy gardening, video and tabletop games, hiking, comedy, marveling at the natural world, and cats.

/2 First, it presumes you have the right “they” — that this person the state has captured is, in fact, a person who has violated the rights of another. What kind of servile dunce to you have to be to trust the state to get it right?

It would be great if that person were also strongly bland on every progressive issue, like just barely pretending she gave a fuck about certain groups that historically vote for Dems because that would make the other side sad or whatever

I don't know if you realize that the debate "for Democrats" was just them being attacked on this point by Republicans over and over and over for years? They ran on this. I agree that most people are motivated by other issues, but this is what they ran on. Why are you blaming the Dems for that

EVERYTHING is "red meat" for mobilizing their base. They used Obama wearing a tan suit and using mustard on his burger as "red meat" for their base and that was before all of this insanity. The answer cannot be that Dems continue to adopt/abide fascism because it's palatable for right-wing voters.

7/ The conventional wisdom that Democrats must "run to the center" to win elections simply doesn't hold up empirically. When Democrats have moderated as a party, they've consistently performed worse electorally. When they have closed the partisan turnout gap, they've consistently performed well.
