Come work with me!

The religion team is a fantastic bunch of people who do some of the Center’s most interesting and innovative work. This is an amazing opportunity for someone looking to start a career in this field!

People with training in the humanities or qualitative social science often inquire about research jobs at @pewresearch.org. The humanities & qualitative research are valuable. However, most of our research uses methods of quantitative social science so we usually hire quantitative researchers.

PLEASE SHARE: We just posted an ad for TWO research assistant positions on @pewresearch.org's religion team. We expect a lot of applications so it's best to apply this week for full consideration. Come work with our great team! pewtrusts.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/Center...

Boggle Arcade Edition on Apple Arcade is a pretty good way to spend a few minutes.

Has anyone actually ever seen one of these Marquis Who's Who books? Isn't this an anachronism, like a phone book? I know someone who promotes "Who's Who?" inclusion in their bio but I can't remember anyone ever saying they've found "Who's Who" a useful resource to consult for any purpose.

Today is a great day to follow @jmhorowitz.bsky.social & check out her team's new report on LGBTQ Americans.

Today we released a major @pewresearch.org survey of LGBTQ adults looking at: ▶️ Views of social acceptance for LGBTQ people ▶️ Personal experiences with acceptance, discrimination ▶️ Experiences with coming out ▶️ Identity ▶️ Community, friends and LGBTQ spaces Read on for findings from each section.

What I miss from Old Twitter is international, ideological and interests breadth. OT had more perspectives from more places on more topics. I'm grateful for Bluesky's UI and the researchers and journalists here. My big Bluesky worry has always been how it will be financially sustainable.

New from Data Labs @pewresearch.org One month of web browsing data shows most respondents visited a search page with an AI-generated summary, but visits to in-depth content about AI were much rarer. pewrsr.ch/4kDb6I5

Are you among the 30% of Americans who consult astrology, tarot cards or fortune tellers?

I just saw a postdoc advertised that requires applicants to pay an application fee. This is new to me.

Listen to @awmercer.bsky.social explain the problem of bogus respondents in opt-in online surveys

If you encounter what seems like an implausible survey finding, ask: 1. Were survey respondents selected randomly or was this an opt-in poll? 2. Could the results, especially for young adults, be driven by bogus respondents? Keep this post in mind: www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

Is church attendance in Britain higher than it was before the pandemic? No, according to data from the Church of England and the Catholic Bishops' Conference. www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/262191/... www.churchofengland.org/sites/defaul...

NEW: Americans trust each other less than they did a few decades ago. Each recent birth cohort is less trusting than the previous one. www.pewresearch.org/SocialTrust 🧪

We took a broad look at social trust in America today. With a survey of almost 37,000 people we were able to look at levels of trust across the states and even in metro areas. Check out our new report here www.pewresearch.org/SocialTrust

Even in countries where few people view religion as very important, many hold beliefs in spirits and/or life after death. For example, few Swedes (7%) say religion is very important to them but nearly two-thirds believe in spirits in animals, parts of nature or objects.

Older adults are typically less likely to believe animals can have spirits www.pewresearch.org/religion/202...

NEW REPORT: Believing in Spirits and Life After Death Is Common Around the World

What is demography for? Nice explainer here: “Demography provides a lens that community leaders, policymakers, business leaders, advocates, and residents can use to allocate resources effectively and plan for a thriving future” www.whysocialscience.com/blog/2025/4/...

New @pewresearch.org 60% of US Catholics say the Church should be more inclusive even if that means changing some teachings. 37% say Church should stick to traditional teachings even if gets smaller. Big differences on this & other questions by Mass attendance. Much more pewrsr.ch/44AA8mv

The @nytopinion.nytimes.com today features a #dataviz of our new global migration flow estimates. nytimes.com/interactive/... Using privacy protected records from three billion Facebook users, we estimated country-to-country #migration flows at monthly granularity for 181 countries.

Since this ended up being a whole thread, I figure I’ll share it more broadly. Here’s a brief explainer on why we interview people online and with paper questionnaires for our annual National Public Opinion Reference Survey (aka NPORS).

Yesterday, @pewresearch.org started posting on Bluesky. Seems like an apt moment to resurface this thread of striking @pewresearch.org findings.

Excellent thread here about what all those "Americans think XX% of country is (group)" findings tell us

Good news! @pewresearch.org is now posting on Bluesky. Follow the Pew crew: go.bsky.app/JtBAeQb #polisky 🧪

This morning, my @pewresearch.org colleagues published a fantastic report comparing the U.S. general public's attitudes about AI with those of AI experts. Perhaps not surprisingly, there are big differences in positivity towards AI, but there are also fascinating points of agreement. /1

NEW ARTICLE: How can we measure religious change in China? We review the available surveys and religion items, addressing concerns about the reliability of survey responses. We conclude the measure of formal religious identity is the best available indicator. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

I have great respect for Economists, Many of my best friends are Economists, But.. Many continue to assume that agents are maximising utility *on earth* The world is mostly religious, so our models should reflect this reality www.ggd.world/p/the-paradi...
