honestly I love when I follow someone for one thing and then I get to learn about all the other things they're passionate about, usually things I never would have found on my own. follow the brainworms!

I need people who only watched the movies to know that Gandalf is 5x more brutal and snarky in the books. He's been around too long and doesn't have time for ANYONE'S shit

Frodo says, "Why was I chosen?" and Gandalf says, "not for any merit that others do not possess: not for power or wisdom, at any rate. But you have been chosen, and you must therefore use such strength and wits as you have" damn Gandalf, let a hobbit live

also no shade to Gandalf but I think I could track down Gollum in less than 9 years. He was probably taking those months long European style holiday breaks in between, Americans have to get that shit done in a week

When Frodo leaves the Shire, he's in his 50s, but he hasn't aged since he got the Ring at his coming of age at 33. Just an interesting tidbit, Elijah Wood really was perfect casting.

Listening to the audiobook on my morning commute. I really love the Rob Inglis version, his narration is so crisp and the songs are so earnestly composed. It feels so cozy and familiar

"Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, and not by its maker. In which case you were also meant to have it. And that may be an encouraging thought." "It is not," said Frodo. lmaoooo I can see why they're friends. Bilbo, Frodo, and Gandalf, the 3 sassiest bitches in Middle Earth

This line is a lot more somber and practical with the full quote. One thing that has struck me on previous reads is how many of the characters feel like they're on the edge of failure for most of the story, or feel they have already failed, but keep pushing forward and doing their best anyway.

I've thought many times about how I feel this way about my cell phone. Literally I could say these exact words about it. And maybe that's not the best thing in the world...

woof yeah that's hard. you could always keep them and see how you feel in a year or two. but yeah it just sucks

me too!! Hot Fuzz is in my top 3 movies for sure. I'm so angry I ended up just tossing my Neil Gaiman books, they're paperbacks so not worth much. I did keep Good Omens but I don't know if I'll ever read it again (also one of my fave books)

I'm so disappointed in him. I'll still probably enjoy his older work, but I'll be less interested in his new stuff, and I won't ever think of him the same way again. Just an absolute shame.

starting in the very first chapter, the theme of the heroes being open-minded to diverse peoples and ideas, and villains being closed-minded, stingy, and insular. just... interesting also, happy pride from the Gaffer!

additional evidence that Millenials are just Hobbits

I once had stickers that were so lovely that I was afraid to put them on anything. eventually they got too old and the adhesive decayed and I couldn't stick them onto anything at all, and I said "okay universe that's a little on the nose, I get it thanks!"

putting stickers on things is truly brave, and a beautiful illustration that life is vibrant and fleeting and should be enjoyed in the moment. godspeed!!!

my friend got me the 1980s copies with the romance cover Legolas & Gimli and the Nicholas Cage Aragorn and I love them so much

made the most amateur mistake - I used to have multiple copies but I gave the extras away. and look at me now 😭 going to have to listen to my backup audiobook copy

There was a lot of good stuff in his run! But after a while, the way he wrote women, and *especially* the way he wrote the Doctor relating to women, skeeved me out too much. Felt very othering. That plus the ego and too-clever-ness made me decide to just take a break til the next showrunner.
