Hmm. Could you remove the existing pins from the brooch, then attach a swing pin? Either solder it in place or use some sort of epoxy?

I have several pins with little black rubber backers which work quite well. They're not really lower profile than the metal ones, but they do have fewer pokey bits. You can usually buy them cheaply in bulk online.

The name of the school was recently changed to Our Lady of the Rockies, but the previous name is not even mentioned in the "school history" section on their website. I haven't visited since I graduated so I don't know if it's marked on-site in any way.

I attended Bishop Grandin high school in Calgary in the 1990s, and this was *never* mentioned. The last residential school still operating in Canada was closed the year I graduated (1997). This is not the distant, misty past.

I don't have Threads because I didn't want to install yet another damned app and (at the time) there was no desktop version.

I've been saying for a longgg while now to anyone who will listen that the two biggest problems with so-called "Generative AI" are that too many people have no clue how it works, and too many people who do understand how it works simply don't care.

I've been known to spoon peanut butter out of the jar and dip it into the bag of chocolate chips when I find myself in this situation.

There's no way he actually read it, but he might've had someone write down two or three key takeaways on the back on a used McDonald's napkin.

I posted a short 🧵 about this a few weeks ago. Basically, there are other options if you can't afford a professional narrator which don't involve feeding your life's work directly into the gaping maw of the Plagiarism Engine.

Tired, cranky, overstimulated, a little bit congested, furious about 99% of everything in the world... and ready to funnel all of it into something creative and (dare I say) meaningful.

I will never knowingly pay for AI trash. I keep a list of publishers and writers (indie and big) who openly laud their use of it, and will avoid them.
I love how imperfect my creations are. I write my stories and do my own character art, because I can't afford to pay an artist and refuse to use AI.

Here's my lil book! Craig DiLouie called it "A powerful Victorian adventure, rich in detail and set in a fully realized world mixing steampunk and magic. A stunning debut!" Who am I to argue?

"Magical workplace safety" is a fun milieu, and I can only think of one novel I've ever read in the genre.

I treasure my 1-star from an ARC reader who doesn't read historical books but read despite the blurb:
"All Isaac Barrow wants is to be left alone to pursue his supernatural research and tinker with his inventions. But when you’re the only technomancer openly practicing the craft in 1880s Halifax.."

This was a great read. As someone who came into reading SFF via these magazines (particularly F&SF) as a teen in the 90s, it has been tough to watch them struggle and flail to find an audience in recent years. I hope the new ownership can right the ships and get them to bountiful waters.

We've got loads of great locally-owned chicken places here that don't funnel my money toward hate groups, so I'm fine not dining on American hate chix.

Dear "activist Tesla shareholders"
History has a word for those who funded, facilitated, and profited from the work of Nazis. The word is Nazi.
