Musk says shame on those who voted for Trump’s bill? Shame on Musk for pumping enormous amounts of money and energy into getting a man elected solely so he could escape criminal proceedings and place himself above the law and in a position to implement his antidemocratic agenda .

your regular reminder that authoritarian populism will make your country corrupt and poor. look at Hungary

The Trump government claims to back freedom of speech. Yet is punishing universities that won't toe the line, and sacking scientists who discover uncomfortable facts. Time to stand firm and face down the bully before all freedom of thought goes. My latest article for @yorkshirebylines.co.uk

Not sure why you need to chase Reform voters when there are millions of disaffected voters who would quite honestly make do with a Labour party that showed a bit of compassion and vision.

🇵🇱 Official results: Nawrocki 50,89 Trzaskowski 49,11 Turnout 71, 63 Nawrocki - 10,6 Million votes Trzaskowski - 10,2 Million votes Bad news for Tusk - and Poland

Oh dear Poland…..

This is exactly it. Most academics are talented, accomplished, work extremely hard. If we have academic jobs, we also got extremely lucky at various points. And there are loads of people who are just like us but very simply didn’t get the lucky break.

This week tried watching Kaos. Not for me. Found it a real mess. Couldn’t feel anything for any of the characters. Didn’t make me laugh. I’m happy with fiction subverting Greek mythology but this just didn’t seem to understand the mythology and even worse really didn’t understand Greek religion.

Truss believes a government that banned pride marches and LGBT materials and in effect expelled a university is an epitome of freedom

Fingers crossed for Poland.

Reform are selling themselves as the party of change but they’re not, they’re the continuity party - the party of continuing the slide towards rightwing populism - Brexit, Johnson, Truss, Braverman, Dories, Mogg - that’s done nothing but harm to the UK over the last fifteen years.

The 13th century font at Peterborough Cathedral. The bowl is made of Alwalton Marble - marine limestone that was quarried at Alwalton, some five miles west of Peterborough. 📸 My own. #FontsOnFriday #Medieval #Peterborough

The UK shifts further and further right for years while all the while the right pretends the country’s too leftwing and that that’s the problem. And then the right completely tips reality on its head by suddenly pretending Farage is leftwing and that his being leftwing is a good thing?!!!

No Independent; Farage has not “lurched left”. It’s all just pressing buttons to keep the polling figures high, the essence of rightwing populism. Unless he’s suddenly recanted his support for Trump he’s still on board with the whole antidemocratic project www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Will go to my grave thinking about why this was the first example of “love” listed in this Yiddish dictionary

Was he asleep when Boris Johnson was Prime Minister?

Terribly sad to hear about Peter David. Issue 467 of the Hulk is, to this day, one of my favorite comic books: sad, dutiful, private and tender. It was the perfect end to a classic run.

The US is now complicit in the deaths of Ukrainians as Trump ONCE AGAIN does not sanction Russia despite his so called “red line.” He is the weakest so called leader America has had in its history.

Pet irritation - it is impossible to get decent whipping cream in the Netherlands. Been whipping now for over ten minutes, electric whisk overheating and the cream is still liquid. Must be because the Dutch always add sugar to thicken up this watery stuff

When voters are surveyed about their main concerns the rise of rightwing populism is never even considered. It’s my main concern, far ahead of all others. If only journalists would start treating it as a problem instead of a possible solution to other issues www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

BREAKING: The Trump administration's plan to bar Harvard University from enrolling international students has been blocked by a US judge news.sky.com/story/judge-...

America cannot long remain free, nor first among nations, if it becomes the kind of place where universities are dismantled because they don't align politically with the current head of the government.

Wannabe dictator acting like a dictator.

The fight for democracy is the fight of our generation. It may not be the battle we wanted, but it is the one we face. The state of our democracy and the future of our country depends on our willingness to take risks, ignore the naysayers, weather setbacks and fight fiercely for democracy.

On June 3rd, 2016, Michael Gove told Sky news that Brexit was: An opportunity "to take back control from unelected, unaccountable elites...." and to "fire them." That's Lord Gove to you plebs...

The 50% drop in net migration just announced will surprise precisely nobody who has been paying attention to the issue, as opposed to exploiting and lying about it for clicks & votes. I doubt the stats will change the toxic narratives of the latter group, though.

Except in the UK where people hate Trump but the Britain’s Trumpist party is still leading in the polls…..

Brexit hasn't been betrayed. The British people have not been betrayed. The betrayal was Brexit. Once that is the established narrative, we can all go forward together.

“Brexit Betrayal”? Brexit WAS a betrayal. Charlatans like Boris Johnson knew it was bad for Britain but sold the country out for personal gain. It was all about stoking division to gain political support. And the rightwing are still at it.

Just one university - UCL - employs almost twice as many people as there are working in fishing boats.

Poland's electorate has spoken, rejecting authoritarianism and Kremlin influence. The pro-Europe candidates' lead in the first round signals a decisive shift towards democratic values and integrity. The winds of change are blowing, and the message is clear: enough is enough. #3E

This is a clear statement by CNN that a man who incited an insurrection against America 4 years ago and told 31,000 lies in his first term still has credibility People should be fired for this sort of thing, as it's these journalistic atrocities—all *dangerously* counterfactual—driving readers away

Millions of Romanians are celebrating tonight nationwide. This is what democracy looks like, despite Russia's insane manipulation campaign and army of influencer-propagandists, the people saw right through the bullshit and made the right call for their future. Romania is undefeated. 🇷🇴🇪🇺
