Believing that your opponents are cheating makes it easier to justify your own cheating.
It's a defense mechanism against believing that you are morally corrupt, all the while abiding morally corrupt actions.

A serious and thoughtful message, well delivered. Thank you.

I think that ascribing the intent of wanting to pressure CUSMA negotiations is too generous. It implies some level of strategic coherence in his objectives.

Over which border? BC/USA or BC/AB?

I fear that Carney is setting us up for even more fossil fuel projects. At a time when Smith & co. are beating the drums of separation, the political pressure to cater to the O&G industry as "nation-building" will be enormous.
I really hope I'm wrong...

Bingo. Wherever Danielle Smith talks about Albertans, she almost always means either UCP supporters or O&G shareholders.

This is not good for global democracy. We need democratic countries to be strong.

Do you have a link to the source of that table? I don't see it in the IEA Energy Technology Perspectives 2024. Thanks in advance.

Does "single-family" in that ratio mean a detached house? If so, why is that the metric?

The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

That's what I wonder... having worked in large corporations, I wouldn't be shocked if the answer was a cognitive dissonance or short-sightedness rather than a calculated decision.

In other words, they make more money from fossil fuel projects than they lose from the disasters they cause?
comment in response to

What I don't understand is why those same insurers (and underwriters) continue to insure fossil fuel projects. Where's the disconnect?

"It would force them to argue in favour of being allowed to pollute more freely, which pretty clearly runs at odds with their claims about being a clean and ethical source of energy."
Would that stop them???

That's what it boils down to. Pierre Poilievre, and by extension the CPC, is fundamentally unserious.

Blocked forever. What an absolute disgrace. Everyone involved in this disaster of an "article" should be completely and utterly ashamed and embarrassed to the core.

@bikecalgary.bsky.social met with the University District designers at the time to advocate for proper bike infrastructure and were told to go away. Now the roads are way too wide and dangerous for biking, especially with kids. A complete misunderstanding of the demographic that would live there.

While I’m sure she would love to allow the fossil fuel industry to spew its pollution without paying for it, I think this letter is moreso an attempt to distract Albertans from her corrupt mismanagement of our health care system.

Not Alberta first. Fossil fuels first. They dress themselves up with the Alberta and the Canadian flags but they really only care about the fossil fuel industry.

This is very intriguing. One question in my mind is about the long-term effects of these drugs. What do we know about the risks, in absolute terms and relative to the risks of obesity?

Housing is key to that notion, IMO. I hope that our governments (muni, prov, fed) can make drastic progress quickly. There, perhaps, is an opportunity to appeal to the greater good over localized opposition.
