Everyone's obsessed with "per stream" figures, but I've read Apple only pays 52% of music revenue and Spotify pays 70%. Using publicly available data, I think this approximates the last four years. I'd love to know what I'm missing. Apple extracts more value from musicians than Spotify, I think.

Everyone focuses on the amount per stream but all research I’ve seen says that Spotify pays 70% of the revenue to rights holders. Apple Music? 52% Spotify has a free tier but presumably they pay 70% of that ad revenue too. Apple should match Spotify’s 70%

This extension is low stakes, but I wish we could all agree across the spectrum that laws passed by congress, signed into law, and also affirmed constitutional by the Supreme Court couldn’t be overturned by executive order, even temporarily. This is bad no matter who is doing it. We have a system.

I'm a gigantic Death Cab fan, but even I underappreciated Narrow Stairs when it first came out. I think it remains the most underrated DCFC album. Long Division is the most underrated song on the record.

The last two episodes of Shrinking were as good as any television I've seen in the last 10 years. Jason Segal, Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Lukita Maxwell, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie... and on and on. Ensemble cast that makes each other better.

My extended thoughts on the Naylor trade/Santana signing tomorrow on the Dery Brothers Guardians Cast. Short version: I love Carlos. One of my all time favorites. Coming off a solid season. Gold Glove. Cecconi is intriguing. But….are they better today than they were yesterday? Probably not.
