Here we go! Feel unusually nervous. 45 years as a Palace fan have taught me not to expect too much. But I just have a feeling about the cup and us this year. #FACup #CRYAST #Eagles

Go along with most of this, but I don't think Trump sees Putin as an "opponent" at all, rather an ally he can't be seen to be siding with too openly (yet). www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I'll tell you what's worse - it's both! @faisalislam.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cp...

Trump's policy is driven "by id, not ideology" and "the desire to see other countries grovel". Paul Krugman says the uncertainty and chaos unleashed by Trump's catastrophic administration is "getting scary". open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...

Reddit is flooded with small businesses owners getting crushed by tariffs — devastated by the thought of raising prices, firing workers, or closing up shop entirely.

1) Fox News is for real not showing stock-market ticker during this week's collapse. 2) Its economic news is "strong jobs report." 3) Every time I've checked in today, the coverage has been "illegal immigrants committing new crimes." This is state propaganda, on a par with North Korea or PRC.

The scrapping of NHS England seems to have brought forth a new word: "abolishment". What happened to "abolition"? Perhaps it's a Joycean hybrid of "abolition" and "admonishment".

Le Monde editorial: Starmer's prevarication over Trump leads some in the EU to view the UK as an "unreliable partner". www.lemonde.fr/idees/articl...

Advocates of "flat rate" taxes never tell you what the flat rate will be. There's a reason for that – it would make your eyes water.

This is sort-of funny but confirms my long held belief that Americans only see English people if they're upper middle class. Most of us just don't live like this. apple.news/AtQBEdP4lSlK...

How did these voters miss that Trump was an erratic Putin-supporting, Canada-hating, economically illiterate, selfish, rich property developer? He didn't exactly keep it a secret.

This is a rubbish way to reform the #NHS. All we know about the govt's ten year plan is that thousands of people apparently need to lose their jobs to make it work. So let's see it then. If you're going to sack people, it's common courtesy to tell them why. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...?

It's delusional to think that Trump's suspension of aide has anything to do with Zelenskyy's Twitter comments or the Oval Office bust up. They're just pretexts for what Trump wants to do anyway. Trump is, and always was, a Putin supporter. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

In what way is crypto an "industry"? What does it make?

For a group of fans who claim not to care that others don't like them, their point is weakened by the fact they sing about it ALL the time. FFS, just shut up, it's infantile & boring. (But after the 'let him die' chant, you are right.) #CRYMIL #PALMIL

Absolutely stunning performance from Lacey Turner tonight. And all live. British TV at its very best. But seriously, scriptwriters: give Stacey a break! #EELive #Eastenders40

Stupid and self-defeating. Trump probably thinks this is a tax cutting move. Sacking tax collecting staff just means you get more evasion and more avoidance, so you have to raise taxes just to get the same amount of money in. IRS (and UK HMRC) staff bring in many times their salaries in revenue.

Democracy in America seems to be slipping away. Who could have imagined democracy would prove more enduring in Europe than over there?

It's pretty obvious what Trump is doing. He wants to side with Putin. He's always wanted to side with Putin but couldn't say it out loud. So he's provoked a row with Zelenskyy so he can paint him as the bad guy and justify what he always wanted to do anyway. www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/...

My Trade Secrets today. If you’re against Trump’s tariffs you’d better hope that some combination of political opposition, smart diplomacy and an economic or market meltdown is going to stop him. Because neither domestic nor international courts are likely to stand in his way. on.ft.com/4hZ2KJv

Trump doesn't resolve conflicts. All he does is back the most powerful side and force the weaker side to capitulate. That isn’t negotiating, it’s bullying. Actually, it’s something worse than bullying that we don’t have a word for. ‘Trumping’ perhaps? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I agree with Duncan - from an economic perspective there is no meaningful difference between just meeting and just missing the fiscal rules. Tweaking tax/spending policy twice a year to chase the model is costly. Any remedial fiscal response could wait until the autumn. Three issues I can see 🧵

Presumably, the memo will now delete itself.

Libertarians backing Trump could be in for a nasty shock. Trump isn't interested in liberty, equality, free speech or anything like that. He's interested in power – getting it, using it and showing it off. Everything he's done and said so far points to a massive extension of executive power.

Wow. What a cover @politico.eu

There is no part of this article that isn’t outright evil or flatly horrifying

Watch out for Muskrat’s new mouthpiece, Nigel Farage, peddling for the NHS to be replaced. It’s coming

Goldman Sachs analysts : The money men saying the quiet part out loud Curing patients may not be a sufficiently profitable enterprise for biotech companies. Chronic disease is a far more beneficial business model www.cnbc.com/2018/04/11/g...

OFWAT says it has stopped water companies from paying bosses' bonuses out of customers' bills. So where does the money come from? #R4Today

The US president is now openly saying he wants to annex a neighbouring democratic country. This not normal, right?

#bhacry 0-2 !!! (32min)

Likely to be multiple reasons behind this 1. enhanced rates for strike cover 2. consultants doing waiting lists at weekends - probably v expensive. 3. high demand to cover rota gaps (some trusts only advertise these v late which may push up rates).

Problem with this stuff (again) is that officials' "appetite for risk" depends almost entirely on ministers' appetite for the same. Which past experience shows is something close to zero. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
