It's HARDER to get patreons anyway as an artist because I'll admit it, we are all so tired of subscriptions. I FEEL THAT! Also, the way artist "produce" isn't usually a predictable monthly thing that is the same per month.

School didn't teach me everything either, but I suppose my interests just led me to learn more (because I like to read) and perhaps what is lacking is that "interest" or concern that actually motivates them to learn/be more involved.

They basically don't care to look into things? So they come and ask me, and get upset that I know the answer.
My sister didn't understand the "No Kings" protest, and I had to remember that they don't pay attention to the things I do or listen to what I talk about in depth.

Yeah, for us, fish and crab have always been on the more expensive side so anything seafood related is a treat!

That's so unfortunate! π It's sad to think that some poor man's meals are more expensive in different places or become higher in price over time.

Yeah! It's exhausting to think about the weight that hair has when it comes to how we have associated it with our gender. Ultimately we should be able to do what we want, while also being able to talk about disproportionate issues and not demonize one style (that's supremacy too).

Yeah. I have Alopecia myself and it's really been unnecessary and weird. This is especially amplified for darkskin Black women who go through hairloss too, because they are 1.) Blamed for their hairloss 2.) Treated differently for now being seen as "more masculine" when they are just trying to live.

I just feel like that derails us from the ACTUAL problem we are trying to address.

There's so much to say about that lived experience as well!

The next question then leaves us to ask why we demonize "masculine women" and think only "feminine women" should be protected... when both should be protected and seen as women? (or their gender identity of choice). That is white supremacy (white women being seen as "more feminine" =protected).

The point is, you should be able to do what you want with your hair. We should not have a disproportionate number of Black women who are forced to cut their hair for modeling, etc. We should see a variety of hairstyles in these industries, have the freedom and choice, and that is the point.

Black women with or without hair are still feminine. A "masculine looking" woman shouldn't be dehumanized either, just because you think they look like a mannequin. In many ways you are just falling in line with the bs white supremacy forced onto you.

You shouldn't have to drag down bald women and call us all masculine because white supremacy DOES and has forced Black women (in modeling) to cut/shave their heads to appear "more masculine" than white women. It's not something we should support, it's a thing that we simply need to stop believing.

The goal of these articles/interviews is to help hard-working, inspiring creatives tell their stories authentically and in their own words - so everything in this article is truly me and what I was willing to share with you in regards to my experience.π

Yeah...that too. Sometimes parents just tear down every interest their kids have because to them it's not possible, so anything the kids MIGHT want to do are kept to themselves or they just give up and go do what makes them money.
