Detoxing from the other place.
Masking. Vaxxing. Not relaxing.
Waiting for the cat distribution system to find me again. Elbows Up. Not playing cards.

My retired Dr once said TO my senior mom they thought medicine shouldn’t extend lives of elderly as much as we do. Also told me in my 40s that if I was going to have a baby I should do so quickly because “you’d want an abortion if fetus tested + for Downs.” Intention was empathy but it was eugenics.

The smell of burnt toast is very triggering for Canadians of a certain age. Me yesterday: “Did you just burn toast?!”

This is terrifying as someone who even verifies the source of an AI response when googling “who is the parent company of Maille mustard” to avoid USA brands.

Rookie early pandemic mistake. I obsessively review my cart totals now and make sure I choose “no substitutes.” I once ordered SPF lip balm but received TANNING OIL as a sub. 🤪🤣

Razor throat sound very enjoyable and very mild. Increased hospitalization sounds mild too. Or…if we can agree that C19 is already severe the assurance that the “already severe illness is not more severe than the currently severe illness” is honest?

I say “during the earlier days of Covid” or “at the beginning of this pandemic.” I try to not associate the lockdowns (that many didn’t even have, or were different for everyone, and which is politicized) with the issue/reality of Covid the disease that we are still learning about.

Desperate times call for lower standards where desserts are concerned. Lol. The “crisp” was not crisp, but more like what a second day crisp topping is like. The breads were tasty but don’t get that crusty top. Cream Cheese icing to the rescue. My beloved brownies would not work. lol

Our oven broke a few months ago & I’ve put off calling a repair person as I’m sure we will need to replace the entire stove & not just an element. I have used our previously unused slow cooker to bake banana bread, carrot cake, fruit crisp, lasagne…among the other usual slow cooker cooker suspects.

Not like they will do a lung X-ray to get out of giving us boosters.

I guess that second hand smoke from my childhood might come in handy. Thanks!

Yes. Friend had this experience in Guelph.
I’ll call around for my brother there, as my mom just got notice she is due. Hoping they can go together. I’m Toronto.

Thanks! I’m the one who is now going to try. I think the pharmacy was being very rigid with “recommended for…” as meaning ONLY for.

Can those of us under 65 get boosted currently? Had a 50 year old friend denied one. Wishing you a safe and speedy procedure!

“Must pass a screening…OR wear an N95 mask.” Dusting off the plexi-partitions, the distancing floor stickers, and hand sanitizer stations. Too bad we threw out the HEPAs.

Update: mom not charged for 24hr monitor. She’s been referred to a cardiologist clinic (not an individual specialist) which concerns me. They told her they could do the BP monitor too, but I suspect the clinic would have charged. Will ask when we go.

While “Jab” may have previously been a neutral term in the UK for vaccines this isn’t the case now & we are not in the UK. This is squarely an anti-vaxx term. We don’t use the words boot or fanny in the same ways here either. Not a way to advocate for vaccine safety & efficacy with this dog whistle.

Agreed. Anything that helps to normalize & familiarize people with the importance of clean air the relatively easy and affordable steps to take yourself. People can see and smell smoke. Harder to politicize that.

Yesterday on CBC radio they were talking about YouTube videos to construct Corsi-Rosenthal boxes and where to buy better masks in the context of forest fire smoke in your home.

Google says not covered ugh. Thanks for the heads up because if she went in not expecting a charge and one is mentioned this would absolutely spike her BP to dangerous levels. She gets riled by exactly that kind of thing!

My mom had one 2 years ago- no charge. Is booked for another on Tuesday and when they called to finalize instructions there was no mention of a charge. I’ll let you know what happens. Her PCP booked it with “their clinic.” 2 years ago it was someone who came to their office 2x per week.

I read this as the family was “all SPOTTED”…ie had measles, but still were outside masked. I mentally added commas as I have such low expectations for people to stay home when sick.

When the right moves that far right the centre moves with it. Centre-left becomes old school centre right.

Perhaps I see my childhood through rose coloured glasses (and it was not all great) but a series of books centred on shared values of empathy, courage, charity, dignity, helping, kindness, learning, patience, respect, responsibility, sharing… now vilified as “woke” is heartbreaking.

I miss the days when spreading facts was valued over disinformation. We had many of those books as kids. Core memory and the seeds of scientific literacy and curiosity. Just finished oatmeal.

We were NOT overly cautious but we did waste any gains by not cleaning the air, normalizing masking and accommodating hybrid learning and staying home when sick. Lessons that would have benefited future generations too. Politicizing and minimizing is what has harmed us all.

I’m sick of the vilifying of all older voters as out of touch when in fact we’re just more experienced & have lived through a lot & seen many incarnations of this sh*t. Also, tells me you have never voted when you complain about pencils and the flexible types of ID that are accepted at the polls.

Is it possible to get a booster in Ontario without a prescription from your PCP? My family Dr is on the edge of anti-vax & has already told my senior mom that both measles & C19 vax isn’t necessary & to “just avoid sick people.” My plan is to just ask for booster & not ask for their opinion first.
comment in response to

Oh I know. My family is still masking indoors & privileged to do grocery pickup. We have a new young Dr who doesn’t believe C19 vax is important either. Taking my 82 yr old parent for appointment next week & will be asking again. We will be the only masked people there & will be labeled “anxious.”
