As I write this, I'm thinking about @jessicacalarco.bsky.social's metaphor of using your privilege as a sword instead of a shield. We will not be the ones targeted--especially not at first. But we advance the cause of authoritarianism when we abandon others to "protect" ourselves.

I feel the same way about white liberals rushing to scrub their social media of any sign they opposed Trump. No one is coming for you. But think about how it helps the authoritarian cause to scare people out of speaking out in advance. And imagine what people can read onto your new neutrality.
