Did you know foxgloves are the county flower of the West Midlands? A brilliant source of nectar, especially for long-tongued bees such as the common carder bee, they're just starting to look their beautiful best. Their mottled markings were once thought to be the hand-prints of fairies!

The children of Birmingham acquitted themselves well at the Great Big Dinosaur Show at the Mac today, as they guessed the hat trick of dinosaurs. Kid got the last one, by correctly guessing Pachycephalosaurus.

We've gone to the mac for the Dinosaur Show, but as a bonus they're having an art fair, so I have already bought a notebook. I think I'll use it for recording what I'm writing and grabbing quotes from books. I've read some very thought-provoking books lately.

@bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social it's really nice to see the verges near me mostly left to bloom. 🙂 The difference between mowed and unmowed areas was stark at first (& lack of rain didn't help), but it's looking good now.

Went to the pub for a friend's birthday, chatted with some folks for a bit. Was saying I was unsure how to explain Michael Jackson to an 8 year old and coined the phrase "Good music, bad choices" which I realised has very broad coverage. Including, apparently, the former band of someone there.

This is my favorite Shakespeare play, so I am seriously delighted

The Liverpool attack wasn’t terrorism. But the far-right didn’t wait for facts – they had a script ready. This piece by The Bear cuts through the noise to show how outrage is manufactured. Read how this works ⤵️ @eastangliabylines.co.uk @bearlypolitics.co.uk

EU almost on track to reach 2030 climate goal www.reuters.com/sustainabili...

this is a great piece that goes well with that recent nick clegg interview where he whined about how asking for permission would kill the AI business arguing that there is no legal reason AI companies can not take your creative output intentionally misses the moral reason of a culture of consent

Fuel poverty and decarbonisation goals can often seem in tension - what would need to change to align them? My colleague @martinakavan.bsky.social looks at the role cheaper electricity could play. We’re v keen to work further on this theme, and to hear thoughts www.nesta.org.uk/blog/we-need...

The thing about the Games Expo is that's it's so big that you easily lose track of where you are, and then you lose track of what rooms even are. Managed to see @peterallison.net at a cross section and @poopraven.bsky.social in a booth. Stopped to watch some game play for a bit.

We did it! We passed our Share Offer target and raised the funds we need to decarbonise the Warehouse. Thank you to all who invested or shared and to @cooperativesuk.bsky.social for match funding. The Share Offer is still open until noon on Friday if you planned to invest & didn't get round to it.

To mark the 1st day of my 4th year without Alice I have an announcement: I’ve joined up with a determined group of women working to change the narrative around trans people. Women standing in solidarity with our trans siblings. Our first step is to ask cis women to read and sign our open letter ⬇️

We're in a tent in the Botanical Gardens queueing to meet a Brontosaurus, with a load of other families who also choose the wrong day to visit the Botanical Gardens. I hope their bakery has some gluten free options.

We're living through the Who Cares Era, where completely disposable things are shoddily produced for people to mostly ignore, while the government stomps its uncaring boot on our necks. But there's an easy way to fight back: Care. I wrote about it: dansinker.com/posts/2025-0...

Watching Jurassic Park II Lost World with Kid. There's a strong vibe of the Demeter coming into Whitby when the boat carrying the adult T-Rex arrives in San Diego.

Had a lovely time watching a load of folk in our community doing a showcase of singing, poetry and talks about great things going on. It was fun, wholesome and earnest. Glad Kid went and enjoyed it, some great wholesome masculinity on display. There was a singalong with Hit Me Baby One More Time

Lovely away day with my team at work. Did my first ever escape room then had lovely chicken pad thai. Only got slightly wet in the rain, and the bus came to the stop just as I did. Then I got an email with some good news.

Data, I found your joke this evening highly amusing. I did not laugh until later, only because I needed to look up the reference. Worf

Paris is transforming its landscape and climate by planting a large number of trees (native species) in the city to lower temperatures and improve rainwater runoff to reduce flooding and improve air quality in the city. This is the way intelligent humans change the cities they live in.

Today I was at Digbeth Community Garden by @inthewarehouse.bsky.social for a very lovely session about writing haiku. I've used haiku as creative exercises before, but not this more meditative approach, which is closer to the true form. It was a good time hosted by @xrbham.bsky.social
