"Futures thinking is powerful because it transforms distant possibilities into a visceral and shared present, that we can feel and act on." Partha Mulay, policy trainee, discusses what the UK can learn from other countries to implement better planning for future generations 👇

So pleased for Birmingham and the honour bestowed upon the Jewellery Quarter as being one of only eight World Craft Cities in Europe joining another Midlands treasure, Stoke on Trent for their pottery. Good News www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Simple step for restaurants to cut food waste: leave cards on tables reminding diners. It works. www.jbs.cam.ac.uk/2025/study-f...

We have got a lot done in the garden before the rain started. Mostly strimming all the lawn and clearing various weeds up the back. The greenhouse is still being mostly eaten by nature, but we've made progress. Tired and sniffly now.

I've just realised I've topped 30K followers, thank you all, but as I'm poor I can only do a UK giveaway as a thank you You have to like, and share this post and be following me to be in with a change to win one of two bear pins No competition accounts and UK only, end midnight BST 8th June

📢 This #WorldOceanDay we're DEMANDING action from govt: BAN bottom trawling in protected areas! 🌊🪸 TAKE A STAND WITH US HERE: act.for-the-ocean.org/act/protect-... 🚨 The world's watching. The time is now⏰ Our director @hugotagholm.bsky.social at the UN Ocean Conference making sure we're heard 🔽

A grassroots movement like Arts Emergency rarely lasts or grows as we have. Our work changes lives, but we rely on monthly donations. Those donations are down £50k since 2021. We've cut all we can, now we're appealing to you for £2/month to plug the gap & go on www.arts-emergency.org/donate%F0%9F...

Just done something a bit nerve wracking, but it seemed to go well. The outcome is out of my hands now, but I'm happy that I did at least ok.

In the midnight hour she cried Moore, More, Moore With a rebel yell she cried Moore, More, Moore

Did you know foxgloves are the county flower of the West Midlands? A brilliant source of nectar, especially for long-tongued bees such as the common carder bee, they're just starting to look their beautiful best. Their mottled markings were once thought to be the hand-prints of fairies!

The children of Birmingham acquitted themselves well at the Great Big Dinosaur Show at the Mac today, as they guessed the hat trick of dinosaurs. Kid got the last one, by correctly guessing Pachycephalosaurus.

We've gone to the mac for the Dinosaur Show, but as a bonus they're having an art fair, so I have already bought a notebook. I think I'll use it for recording what I'm writing and grabbing quotes from books. I've read some very thought-provoking books lately.

@bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social it's really nice to see the verges near me mostly left to bloom. 🙂 The difference between mowed and unmowed areas was stark at first (& lack of rain didn't help), but it's looking good now.

Went to the pub for a friend's birthday, chatted with some folks for a bit. Was saying I was unsure how to explain Michael Jackson to an 8 year old and coined the phrase "Good music, bad choices" which I realised has very broad coverage. Including, apparently, the former band of someone there.

This is my favorite Shakespeare play, so I am seriously delighted

The Liverpool attack wasn’t terrorism. But the far-right didn’t wait for facts – they had a script ready. This piece by The Bear cuts through the noise to show how outrage is manufactured. Read how this works ⤵️ @eastangliabylines.co.uk @bearlypolitics.co.uk

EU almost on track to reach 2030 climate goal www.reuters.com/sustainabili...

this is a great piece that goes well with that recent nick clegg interview where he whined about how asking for permission would kill the AI business arguing that there is no legal reason AI companies can not take your creative output intentionally misses the moral reason of a culture of consent

Fuel poverty and decarbonisation goals can often seem in tension - what would need to change to align them? My colleague @martinakavan.bsky.social looks at the role cheaper electricity could play. We’re v keen to work further on this theme, and to hear thoughts www.nesta.org.uk/blog/we-need...

The thing about the Games Expo is that's it's so big that you easily lose track of where you are, and then you lose track of what rooms even are. Managed to see @peterallison.net at a cross section and @poopraven.bsky.social in a booth. Stopped to watch some game play for a bit.

We did it! We passed our Share Offer target and raised the funds we need to decarbonise the Warehouse. Thank you to all who invested or shared and to @cooperativesuk.bsky.social for match funding. The Share Offer is still open until noon on Friday if you planned to invest & didn't get round to it.

To mark the 1st day of my 4th year without Alice I have an announcement: I’ve joined up with a determined group of women working to change the narrative around trans people. Women standing in solidarity with our trans siblings. Our first step is to ask cis women to read and sign our open letter ⬇️

We're in a tent in the Botanical Gardens queueing to meet a Brontosaurus, with a load of other families who also choose the wrong day to visit the Botanical Gardens. I hope their bakery has some gluten free options.

We're living through the Who Cares Era, where completely disposable things are shoddily produced for people to mostly ignore, while the government stomps its uncaring boot on our necks. But there's an easy way to fight back: Care. I wrote about it: dansinker.com/posts/2025-0...
