At this point Liz Truss is essentially just a kind of noisemaker. Like a doorbell but less useful.

Not a film, but the costuming in Shōgun was absolutely extraordinary.

Saw a post on here stating that ICE recently flashbanged a crowd, which feels just a bit escalatory.

I Google the translation for 'Are you Ukrainian?' and 'a soldier?', say 'excuse me', and ask him. He says yes, then his wife says that he doesn't speak English. I say thank you, and offer a quiet 'Slava Ukraini', and leave them to their game.

Pardon me, but 'culprit' and 'guilt' are unpleasant words to use here, even in jest.

Cabinet War Rooms benefits from being dead central, from the association with Churchill who remains a well known world historical figure with a special appeal for American visitors, and the site had a vibrant working life in wartime. I'm not sure these tunnels will manage the same appeal.

Enjoyed the piece. Found myself wondering afterwards why the pressures of the FWW collapsed Imperial Russia, but the pressures of the SWW didn't do the same to the Soviet Union. A more powerful state, with greater popular support, undergirded by terror, I guess.

A perfect game. The sequel also fun, but the originality of the first was so refreshing.

I think the priests in ancient Rome got more coherent ideas than this by studying the entrails of sacrificed animals.

I remember seeing that when it was broadcast on TV. I don't remember much of the plot, but I remember it making a deep impression on me.

I wonder if people like artificial 'art' or text for the same reason people like artificial food. It takes less chewing.

Yes, the law is absurd. Judging by it you'd think that Thatcher's Britain was under siege from Japanese peasant farmers robbing people of their Walkmans.
