I use Kelvin. Oh, you’ve never heard of it? Yeah, most people haven’t. I’ve been into it for a while now.

Probably no changing this anytime soon, America is so Protestant & prioritizing belief like that is how Protestantism works, but there’s other ways of doing religion & being religious, & not just mashing up some different beliefs & practices you like & calling it spirituality instead
comment in response to post
Also think the way Americans see religion as being primarily about believing certain things is a big part of the problem. Folks get hung up on “I don’t really think the world is 6000 years old, don’t know if Jesus was a real person, but I have to say I do to be a part of the group? Screw that!”

That’s just the engrams talking, trying to hold you back

Barely remember whatever idiocy inspired this

I didn’t know there were any Americans doing it! I knew everything I knew from reading Simon Reynolds and Woebot, a couple others whose names I’ve forgotten that I knew about through those two

I’d imagine inside the mind of a dog might sound like the vocals on this song, wordless sounds, conveying emotions through tone & rhythm. Is this song saudade? youtu.be/vk4NL1vpAiE?...

Obama was calm, cool & collected when the market was crashing while the far more experienced McCain couldn’t handle the pressure & flailed around sadly until the election.

Oh yeah I forgot about those guys. They were new to me until they got some press for being at that Nick Sandman/Old Native American Man standoff.

Sure why not?

Thanks for backing me up on these points. Finally reached my exhaustion point & had to tap out but I enjoyed arguing with you & am always happy when one of these long back-and-forths doesn’t devolve into name calling & shit. You gave me some things to think more about too. Thanks & take care!

I support bodily autonomy for trans people & abortion and I support vaccine mandates. No conflict. Transmissible diseases affect everyone but being transgender or getting an abortion doesn’t affect anyone else.

The French do. Probably the Greeks as well. Other than that I don’t know

Maybe he’s a Terrence Malick fan and he’s thinking impressionistic elliptical thoughts about the nature of existence & God & remembering a late summer pickup baseball game from his youth with that boy who drowned a few weeks later & the way the sun shown thr…

Is “the Hotep bullshit” a black nationalist BS (all the key players in human development in the Eastern Mediterranean were black; maybe NOI related?) or an antisemitic BS (modern Jews are European interlopers in the Middle East who should go back to Poland)? Or some third type of BS?
comment in response to post
Interesting, twisting the reality that there was a longstanding Ethiopian Jewish community that had been largely isolated from the rest for centuries.

Were the original Pokemon black? Were the original cast of Frasier black? Were the original cats black or tabby? Were the original Werther’s Originals Hard Candies black? Were the original Black Crowes band members black?

Yep. A cop can not just fuck up your day, but your entire goddamn life, and there is literally no recourse. 48 hours in detention can cost you your job, your rent money, your housing, your marriage, and your life, a cascade of horror.

Amazing, so happy for you. Must’ve been worried sick

Ah, condolences! Yes, we should always hope and do what we can to reduce harm

But also if a real crisis erupts, like a bird flu outbreak? Things could develop rapidly. God, can you imagine? We’d be so fucked!

Yeah, we’ve got a ways to go

I dream of some reconstruction government where treasonous Republicans finally get what traitors deserve and we can try in whatever ways we can to try to at least provide some compensation to people like Mahmoud

God. Thats at least borderline reportable.

This is either entirely in bad faith or you’re functionally illiterate.

Just because open carry is legal doesn’t mean you can’t say that it’s not welcome here, you’ll be asked to leave & unless you’re a raging narcissistic asshole you’ll probably agree? Supposedly the guy who was open carrying isn’t a raging narcissistic asshole. But maybe he was

Again: you want to get rowdy at the ICE HQ? Great! Organize & promote that. It’s not about trying to be the only game in town, it’s about not letting the small penis posse turn every protest into some tense situation where you never know when shots might start ringing out?
comment in response to post
Why shouldn’t the org that got the permits & did the planning and promoting not be able to say this protest is meant to be peaceful and safe for normies and if you can’t or don’t want to abide by that please find a different action to participate in? Why the fuck can’t we set clear expectations?
comment in response to post
Slightly changing the organizing culture of one local branch of one org. 1999 protests didn’t have people shooting guns

I’m a therapist and I not infrequently hear patients tell me about prior therapists doing the most insane or weird things. Not shutting up about day trading is a new one!

Woo hoo! This is my first time hearing this. Fantastic news! Doubt it’s possible for bullshit QI reasons or something but I’d love it if he’s able to get a MASSIVE settlement out of the feds for this

The signs say “TERFS against Trump” and “Men are men, women are women and Donald Trump is a turd we need to flush” something like that. Is that about being TERFs or being anti-Trump?
comment in response to post
Freedom of speech and open carry cannot meaningfully co-exist. The gun sends the message that if you’re unhappy with the outcome of democratic debate & decisions, you reserve the right to use force to have your way. Open carry is a cancer on the body politic
comment in response to post
Open carry & freedom of assembly cannot meaningfully co-exist.
comment in response to post
But the only reason the protesters themselves can’t kick out the open carry dude if they don’t want him there is because he’s carrying a fucking gun & intimidating everyone! Which maybe isn’t his intention! But if he doesn’t want to go, nobody can kick him out.
comment in response to post
I say sanitize the fuck out of those optics. Get them to stfu about anything except Trump bad or chase them off. Just like open carrying in Utah, no laws are broken, but they will drive people away & muddy your message.
comment in response to post
What about this scenario: A TERF group joins the protest. They hate Trump on everything except trans policies. They have big signs that make clear what they’re about. Do you just let them do their thing? Or do you try to micromanage them as far away as you possibly can?
comment in response to post
Literally all I’m asking here is no open carry. There are so many ways it is dangerous & corrosive. Far more people have died from accidents & mistakes it’s caused than lives have been saved. Open carry laws exist because of & primarily help the far right.
comment in response to post
Idiots doing concealed carry, licensed or not, seem to always be shooting their dick’s off. Sucks for them, but they’re not making everyone feel on edge before they do
comment in response to post
If I don’t know you’re carrying I don’t know you’re carrying. I’d rather not have people concealed carry either, but whatever, policing for that I don’t think is worth the immense effort it would take to enforce. Open carry really is a different & much more toxic beast.
