the above games are probably the best example of environmental storytelling.....those devs really put their heart and soul into every single detail in the setting
some parts can get a little too real (esp in reference to actual historical events), but i find that it adds more depth to the narrative

great! the best version is on the switch (dreams of the revenant version) because it also has the prequel and sequel games :>
the prequel made me cry ugly tears ๐ฅฒ fata morgana has some of the best character writing i've ever seen

i also HIGHLY recommend these 2 psychological horror games, devotion and detention. devotion (1st-person horror) deals with the dangers of cults, while detention (2D sidescroller) explores 1960s Taiwan under martial law through Taiwanese religious and folks motifs
both are SUPER atmospheric!! (3/3)

another game i really enjoyed was rule of rose (ps2 horror)! REALLY haunting narrative about trauma, girlhood, and how the most innocent among us can be the most cruel. gameplay wasn't that great, but the story is AMAZING, so i rec watching a playthrough (2/?)

oooh recs! my go-to rec for great horror and horror-adjacent narratives is always going to be the house in fata morgana (a visual novel) :D it's not exactly traditional horror per se, but it has dark elements and deals with a lot of HEAVY subject matter in such a cathartic way (1/?)
