If anything game Toad has possibly helped Mario save his company save its products and employees from Donkey Kong via the multiplayer of the Mario Vs Donkey Kong remake. I hope they are just saying SMB2 Toad was The Toad so the intent not the Nes visuals. Also hope its not just movie synergy.

I love platformers but I have to agree I just hope a possible name for specific subgenres is short and descriptive but not using names of any ip or specific game cus thats kinda dumb and should happen less. Im not creative eneough to think of a name for brawling platformers EX kirby.
